Default Question for Pool Owners

Our new home has a pool, which we would like to begin to enjoy as the weather warms up. The pool is currently heated by a heat pump. I am considering having a roll up solar cover installed by T&D and would like to know if you have a solar cover and is it a good way to cut down on the expense of heating the pool to an enjoyable level. Cost to have the cover installed will be about $550. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

We also have a heated pool. This time of year you need a solar cover to keep the heat in overnight. Besides having the heat pump we had solar panels placed on our roof. The cost of putting these in was about $3,500. This cost is being quickly recouped as we do not use our heat pump from April through November. We have the thermostat set on the solar panels at 90 degrees during the summer but you can set it at any temp. More info than you asked but to recap the solar cover is a good idea.

I don't have the patience to mess with the cover. Did than once for a few months and threw it away.

I had a pool cover and didn't like the hassle or the look of the cover. With a heat pump it's hard to accept loosing all that heat, I have solar so the heat is free.

Hey Kahuna 32162, $550 seems a bit pricey for a solar cover but I could be wrong. I would recommend to check out lesliespoolsupplies.com. for a solar cover and solar reel. Over twenty-seven years and up north, we've used them a lot for our in-ground 18 x 40 w/stairs. By the way, looks like there are stores in Ocala and Clermont. Hope this helps you out.

It may not give you jan thru February, but it will make the other 10 months right on the temp you desire.

Default Cover

We had a cover..used it a couple weeks..THEN...one of the dogs was not too careful running around the pool with the cover on AND feel in !!! Cover went out to the trash..they know how to swim, but not under the cover.. Dogs more important than the heat...

Our cover is in the attic. It's never been on. I'd rather look at our pool and not a cover and same reason re dogs.
Ours wear Turtle Swim Alarms on their collars that if it gets wet the alarm in our house sounds.

Your cover has probably melted together with the heat in our attic's.
