My bill just went to $301.84!! While I do have some bells and whistles, I don't have every option and this is a ridiculous amount to be giving to Comcast every month. So I've signed up for DirecTV, I've dragged my Ooma out of the attic, but now I need an internet provider (I just checked and my Comcast "Ultra" download speed is 3.19 Mbps). We do need some speed, my husband frequently streams Netflix. We started out with CenturyLink Prism, after a year left them because we constantly had to reboot the system, and have been ok with Comcast's product - but not at this price!
So now I'm in the market for an internet provider - any suggestions? We're in the Cane Garden area so Brighthouse is out, and I don't want to bundle any more. Thanks for the help!

Century Link will provide fiber optic service and you will get $10 off your DTV bill for 10 months also. I have DTV and Comcast but I am so sick of the slowdowns all the time and my LG Smart TV has a hard time streaming Netflix and Amazon. My bill is $64.95/mo with download speeds around 30 Mbs when it works.

I've had centurylink for two months. We love it and have had NO trouble at all.

Good luck finding a high speed internet provider other than the 2 mentioned. There are some wireless or satellite systems, but the speeds are slow. I would be interested in finding someone else too.

We cut out Comcast TV and asked them how much they would charge for internet only (at 25 mgbs). They quoted $75 for internet but $70 for internet+phone for 12 months. Then it will go to $85, but they said "Just call at that time and complain and we will work with you on the rate."
So, we're going to try that for awhile, 'cause Century Link was charging $62+ per month for phone only. We've had Century Link phone for several years but they could only supply 10 mgbs to our address, UNTIL the time came to disconnect, then they said "Oh, we could have gotten you 25 mbs." Really? |

We tried Prism three years ago here in Largo and had a lot of pixel ing so we switched to Directv and kept Centurylink Internet. We've been very satisfied with it and after the first year it went from $45 a month to $75 but I called and complained and they lowered it back to $45. I've don't that twice now with no problems.

When I signed up for Century Link one of the questions I ask was about the freezing up and having to reboot because it is a popular topic. He said that the newer homes would not have this issue because we have fiber optic running to the house and the older homes have standard cable wire. I am south of 466A, he did not say when they switched to fiber optic but we have not had any issues.

I have had an ongoing love-hate relationship with Comcast for almost 12 years now in TV. The latest frustration was only yesterday when there were two billing errors on my new bill. The hate part was waiting 40 minutes for a rep to get resolution to a clear cut error correction but the love part was after I finally hung up on that rep (after being on hold for 38 out of the 40 minutes while he tried to get a supervisor to talk to me) and I called back and got a rep who immediately reviewed the bill and credited my account for the billing errors in less than 5 minutes! Thinking back over all the issues with them, it always ends up getting resolved to my satisfaction after I finally can speak to someone with authority or someone empowered to make the customer happy. The last experience with the ridiculous rat increases got resolved very equitably when I spoke with a rep in the disconnection department who was empowered to reduce my rate significantly to retain the account after 10 years. Neither the customer service people nor the person in the "appeals" department would budge on the rate but the disconnection people were empowered. Comcast's products continue to improve and expand and it may be in your best interest to try and find the right person to discuss your frustrations with and see if you can reach an agreement in your best interest. Shouldn't have to be so hard....but it might be best to try rather than splitting the services two or three ways and dealing with another set of problems with multiple companies.

I would suggest calling Comcast first and complaining and they will send you to their "loyalty" department that has given me deals in the past.
Just had a horrible customer service experience with Centurylink which i posted about. I'm stuck too, so I shall follow this thread. Quote:
