Trip for my wife and I was a BOMB. $90 for 2 people to ride in a bus for 2 hours to get to the " Historic Section " of New Smyrna Beach, a three block long street with a just a few shops, none of which compare to what we have right here in The Villages. The Historic Section is miles away from the beach with no transportation to the beach area available weekdays. Walking along the same three block stretch in what appears to me to be a semi depressed Town was not what we envisioned and made our feelings known to the Tour Guide and the people in the Chamber ofCommerce right there in Town where we went to get some ideas..... but no help since there is nothing really there. This is not a reflection on the people and some shop owners who were very friendly but they do not have much to work with. There are a couple of restaurants but nothing to write home about but not too bad. In fairness, some of the women who appeared to be in a group said they enjoyed themselves but ....to each his own. I think this was arranged by a woman who moved there from TV and this group of women seemed to know and that may account for their opinion but AAA never investigated this trip..it was the first time for them. Perhaps the next trip to the actual Beach will be better but .....there are better beaches for us on the Gulf. They missed out on an opportunity to introduce us to New Smyrna and returning by not making this a better event.

I am one of three ladies who also went on this trip. We had never been to New Smyrna Beach. It was very nice to have the Mayor and several other shops represented at our the initial drop off point. The Hub ,a working artist gallery had many treats, coffee, juices , and Mimosas for our bus.
. A golf cart was made available for those who wanted to hop on and off. A packet with flyers ands maps of shops and galleries and restaurants Plus discounts were given to all. Yes, if you are not shopping inclined you may had a problem. Everyone was very accommodating and anxious to help or find things. One lady opened her unique home/shop to us . She provided many desserts and several kinds of wine. She also raffled off a basket with several goodies from the area shops. I for one got my monies worth. Everyone involved was friendly and helpful. The event was a gracious and delightful experience for my friends and I . I am disappointed that the gentleman did not find the trip up to his standards ,or expectations. As with all things " It is viewed through the eye of the beholder...Different strokes for different folks..To each his own.......

Truly, one of the best small art towns in America; my husband participated in several craft shows in N.S.B. when we lived on a barrier island in Brevard County (when younger). We also know other artisans who still attend these arts and crafts shows in New Smyrna Beach and elsewhere in Florida....

I'm sure, as the other poster said, that N.S.B. , like other small towns in America, coast to coast, has seen better days...however, the artisan community usually tries to invigorate the town with its own spirit and joy of living.

I would have thought a trip to New Smyrna Beach would have been to the actual beach! If it was just to be a shopping trip, it should have been advertised as such. We go to New Smyrna beach quite frequently as we love the beach there. We actually go to Apollo Beach which is part of the extensive Canaveral National Seashore that continues to the south, all-natural and minimally developed. If you like more excitement, you can go to New Smyrna Beach proper, where you can drive on the beach, like Daytona, but its not quite as touristy.
