I am coming on a house hunting trip in two weeks. I concentrated my search in the area north of Rt. 466A because it seemed closer to the activities. I know my husband will be utilizing the tennis courts at Glenview.
My question is how far is it to most of the activities from the Villages of Gilchrist, Fernadina, and Pinealls? What about shopping, medical offices, etc? Thanks for the help. |

I am off DaFoe in Gilchrist. I can walk to my pool and mail station. If I come out of Dafoe and make a right, I am 5 minutes to Pinella Plaza (SweetBay, Villages Health Care, library, etc.), and I pass a pool and rec center on the way. 10 minutes to Brownwood, also. Now, if I make a left I am 115 minutes to Colony Plaza (Publix, Villages Health, Colony Cottage Rec Center, Bealls, Anthonys, etc.), and I pass 1 Country Club, 2 rec centers (Captiva and Bradenton) and 3 pools. These are golf cart driving times, by the way. We ended here by accident, and are quite happy with the location.

Welcome to TV! Pinellas Plaza shopping center is close to these villages (although all 3 are just south of 466a). There is a grocery store, and the standard strip mall type of shops, a bank and walgreens. There is open fields just north of 466a that are going to have retail and medical offices coming soon but no details as to what exactly is going in there. The Villages healthcare clinic is also nearby. Glenview is quite a ways away (around 30 min by golf cart?) from these Villages. Think of TV as a giant tic tac toe grid. Morse blvd and buena vista blvd are the north/south lines and 466 and 466a are the east/west lines. We live in Duval and it takes us about 10 min by cart to get to Lake Sumter Landing and about 15 min to Brownwood.

If I had it to do over, I would look for a place in Tall Trees, Winifred, that area. It is close to restaurants, banks, shopping and not far from Lake Sumter and Spanish Springs. I live in Duval, and while I like it and love my neighbors, every time I need something I seem to be driving up there.

Laurel Valley is in the center of everything, but no houses for sale here at the moment. It is right on 466 and close to Lake Sumter Landing and a lot of restaurants, shopping and Publix and Walmart and a lot of doctor's offices.
P.S. EVERYONE thinks their village is the best.

I like Natural Gas and it is not in all Villages . Check them out. Unless I am mistaken Natural Gas is not available South of 466A and in some places North of it. Good Luck

We are in St. James. Great access to Buena Vista, Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood. If you take 466A east, to just outside The Villages line, you can cut up some back roads to all the big box stores on 441 in 20 minutes tops.
There you will find Sam's Club, Home Depot, Kohl's, Best Buys, etc... I do believe in a short period of time there will be a lot more retail south of 466A, as there are now a lot of homes. It's only a matter of time, the demand is here. What I don't like about the south end of The Villages is trying to shop at Colony Plaza during the winter months. It is way too crowded and downright dangerous with all the traffic and that is the only Publix Supermarket at this time in the south end. There is a Sweetbay Supermarket in Pinelles Plaza and although I have tried to like them, I just don't. Come and look, and get a feel for the area. It's very confusing in the beginning but really not a big deal once you get to know your way around. Good luck!!!!! |
