Has any Village resident received a traffic citation while driving a golf cart on the golf cart path?

No. I am glad to see they are policing the paths. I am frequently passed up by folks in souped up carts in a hurry to go somewhere. Golf carts can cause injury and people can be thrown out of carts upon impact. I think it's foolhardy :joke: and irresponsible to be hotroding about. We're no longer children and should be more responsible. I suppose irresponsible golf cart drivers are also irresponsible auto drivers; so, I shouldn't be too surprised.

I understand that no citations can be issued for actions on the paths. They are not roads. Same holds true for those white plastic stop signs on the paths. I don't think citations can be issued for not stopping when crossing driveways but maybe when entering a roadway. But, if an accident occured, a reckless driving charge can be issued.
The law is really vague and confusing and subject to interpretation. Everyone has their opinion. This is mine. Just use common sense and drive defensively ! ! !

In the newspaper (The Reporter) about six months ago, there was an article about citations being issued. You can't be ticketed until you are on a public street (crossing) then you could be ticketed. The cart paths are not considered roadways and are considered as being private property.

It was reported on VNN that two people were fined $300 and had to go to court for going over 20 mph. I don't think they were on the street.

i know someone that received a ticket for driving her golf cart too fast. I also have a friend who received a ticket for not making a full stop on a golf cart path.
We all should be careful and drive safe. |

Rumors,Rumors,Rumors, Nobody has yet to really confirm that a ticket was issued on a cart path, Its private property and the if you drive under the influence or recklessly you can be arrested even on private property but otherwise they have no jurisdiction on private property, In most states the law says a person may not operate any type of vehicle under the influence or recklessly in the state anywhere. I know that's the law where I come from and I was a cop for 25 years, Remember in most city's this size there are tons of tickets issued, If you look at whats being issued here in the Villages its really not to bad except for a few reckless jerks. Drive defensively

Don't know about Florida but I know that in California parking lots are private property. If the owner of a shopping center gives permission, the police can and do issue citations for illegal maneuvers in the lots. Wonder if Florida has a repricol law (too lazy to look it up) and, if so, if TV has given the local police permission to issue citations. It would make sense.

Why don't you contact the local police and ask about the law. Also ask the TV if they have given permission. If you have any doubts, you can always FOIA the information.
