Default Bad Furniture Store Experiences

First I must explain that we are not full time Villagers until September 2015 and only get to come here for a week every several months.

ROOMS TO GO

We had 3 rooms delivered in November 2013 and found defects. They could not get a repair person here until our visit this week April 2014. He shows up for 15 minutes, says there are 4 pieces that need to be replaced. I call Customer service and they can't even tell me if they will accept his report for 7-10 days and maybe can schedule delivery for our next visit the week of June 30 IF they agree the pieces need to be replaced.

HAVERTY'S

Supposed to deliver a chair, sofa and love seat. Shows up with two sofas and no love seat. Called Customer Service. They can't schedule delivery of the love seat for the week of June 30 yet because their system does not go out that far.

So, what was the bad experience? It sounds like the stores are accommodating you with your very intermittent times in The Villages.

Being out of town owners isn't easy. Do you have someone locally that could meet the people at your property? We've found most places can't accommodate our schedule as out of town owners. We depend on local help.

We've had rental property in different states the last 15 years and this has helped us deal with the issue. I may be wrong, but wonder if it has less to do with customer service and more to do with availability of working with an out of town owner. I hope a person in The Villages can help resolve some of your issues.

I have a management company overseeing things like deliveries (washer/dryer) and any repairs that need to be taken care of. They deal with the warranty people if there is a problem.

I think I may have not have made myself clear. My issues was not with working out schedules. they were that Rooms To Go can't even tell me if they will fix the problems and Haverty's didn't even check to see what they were sending in the first place.

Hi:

I feel for you having issues with the furniture delivery and order. We've had similar issues with another large furniture store. It's very frustrating having them bring the wrong furniture when you are anxious to receive it. Try to hang in there.

Sorry to hear that. We were so lucky last year when furnishing our new home. We will be full time in Jan 2015. We bought most of our furniture from Showcase Direct and Southern Lifestyles. No delivery fee, 5% discount for villagers, and loaner furniture if you need it. Their
delivery window was only 2 hours not 4 like I was used to. Unfortunately they are gone and I don't think City Furniture is as good. No discount for Villagers and hefty delivery fees.

We just recently purchased a kitchen table from City Furniture and were very pleased with the store and product. While there is no discount and a large delivery charge, the total cost was still less than other stores. The bottom line is the number to compare.

Any furniture store that charges a delivery fee in this market is not thinking clearly. All I hear from people is that they feel ripped off paying for delivery. Even if the overall price is lower, people in the Villages do not like paying for delivery. Just poor marketing in the Villages.

All stores have a delivery charge for their items.
Some say there isn't one,
but it's always factored into the price of everything they sell.
At least City Furniture is up front regarding the charge and
will tell you what it is before the sale is completed.

I've just responded separately, to another post regarding delivery charges.
Anyone who thinks they are getting a "free delivery" has a screw loose.
If the public thinks they are getting "ripped off,"
they must be living under a rock.

It isn't "poor marketing."
It simply is being up front and honest.

Absolutely correct! I often see the same thing on eBay. One seller will sell an item for $100 with a $10 delivery fee. Another seller will sell the same item for $85 with a $25 delivery fee. I still have to pull $110 out of my pocket.

We had bad experience with Rooms to Go also. I will not shop there or recommend them.

We just purchased some furniture from Babette's in Leesburg. They have a great assortment of quality furniture and offer free delivery as did the former Southern Lifestyles furniture stores in The Villages. What a pleasant buying experience at Babette's!

Both Babette's in Leesburg and White Furniture in Summerfield are good, locally owned stores that value their customers in TV and the area. I've had furniture held till our later arrival at both of these stores and they're good about it. Also, their delivery people are enthusiastic and courteous/careful.

I think the furniture business here in TV would be a lot better if Babette's had been the company to take over where Showcase Direct and Southern Lifestyles closed. City Furniture's inventory looks like the quality of Rooms to Go, with more of it.
