Default Hiking Suggestions?

We will be at TV in June for a Lifestyle Preview. One of the items on our "bucket list" for our visit is to explore any nearby hiking trails. We welcome any suggestions!

Ocala North – Those looking for a multi-day backpacking trip can hike one of the first and most popular sections of the Florida National Scenic Trail in the Ocala National Forest. The northern section spans a distance of about 35 miles and passes through a rolling sand scrub habitat. Wildlife is abundant – deer, gopher tortoises, scrub jays and black bears.

Central Florida
Citrus Hiking Loop – With more than 40 miles of trails in a series of loops, the Citrus Hiking Loop in the Withlacoochee State Forest is a favorite for those training for long-distance backpacking. Day hikers can enjoy shorter loop hikes by utilizing cross trails with multiple access points. The terrain can be somewhat challenging, with rolling hills that pass through different habitats.

Hi - We've driven in to Carney Island which looks beautiful, well maintained, etc. And it's our our list to go back and hike very soon. It's about 20 minutes away.

The highest point in Florida is 305 feet above sea level, don't expect to train for any mountaineering.....

Ha ha. Nope! We do enjoy a good 3-4 mile hike through different natural areas though.

Hi again, Beth. So many hikes, so little time. Suggest you list interests so you target: wildlife? ocean? deeply native Fl? trails? birds?
How far you can travel to get there...
How much touristy vs rugged solo hiking..

one resource:
http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/PDF/F...ing_Trails.pdf
nother:
http://www.nbbd.com/ecotourism/festivals.html

When searching, consider that we are hosted in 3 counties (Marion, Lake, Sumter) and there are natural areas in each county and in any direction from where you will be staying...

I've hiked a little at Carney Island. There are a couple of really nice trails. That place is such a treasure and so close. I love it there.

Lovely hike from one end of The Villages to the other; 17 miles. Virtual Geezer has done it.

A good walk spoiled? 34 Executive courses and 13 Championships.

Then there is tennis, rollerblading, pickleball, running, and a VERY large Bicycling club with singles and tandems. Plus all the sex we are all having.

So much to do.

You just won't believe how busy you will be. Folks who don't live here yet laugh about our putting on Jammies before ten. Sometimes I am too tired to put them on. I mean...well you know.
