Default 466A Will be Wider

My husband and I met a young kid (18 yrs. old -- that's a kid to me!), who lives with his mom on the south side of 466A in the area where some of the older homes are.

I didn't want to seem like to much of a busy-body, but this is what he told us. 466A is definitely going to be widened and I would assume it will be relatively soon. I'm not sure how many lanes, however. He said the "county" is buying his house. Now, I'm not sure if the county is actually buying it or Morse (same thing to the owner). The county may need the frontage of the physical land for the widening, but I'd be willing to bet Morse is the actual purchaser. He mentioned that where his property is located is slated to be part retention pond and part golf cart path. I don't know how he knows this. I'm not sure how many other properties are involved in this sale, but the sale(s) haven't closed yet.

Although you can't really see anything yet, a lot of infrastructure work is currently being done in Morse's Fruitland property. You can bet things will move quickly. Morse doesn't let grass grow under his feet and every day that goes by is costing him money.

Plans to widen 466a to 441/27 have been in the works for years. Will wind up 4-lane from 301 to 441/27.

The above comments are interesting, but I recall a newspaper article recently that stated 466A from Powell road to 301 would be one lane each direction with added center islands and left turn lanes. There maybe some congestion going west on 466A at Powell where 466A will go from 2 lanes to 1 lane, however, anyone going north would probably just take 462, or Powell south to 44 and 42. The work on this portion of 466A is supposed to be completed in October.

My apologies regarding my original post. I should have been more specific.

I was referring to 466A in the Fruitland Park area -- east of the Colony Plaza. While plans to widen the road may have been in the "plans" for a long time, it's obvious that the new Morse parcel for 2,000 new homes is going to speed things up. Is there any doubt that Morse has clout with the county powers that be?

The real clue is when the "kid" to whom I referred, mentioned that where his property was located, was going to be part retention pond and part golf cart path. That isn't old news from previous talk about the road widening; that is brand spankin' new news.

If you look at Google maps, there are no homes in the area of the new Fruitland Park section of TV. Remember that Fruitland Park has areas that allow golf carts. That may be the cart path that he was referring to. As 466A approaches 25 and 27/441, there is less room for widening, so I suspect that may be where his house is located.

Sure Morse may be accelerating the widening with the new homes in mind, but the plan to widen 466A has been in place for years. About 5 years ago, there were signs along 466A between 301 and Powell Rd. Advising most of those homes were going to be taken/sold to accomplish the widening to four lanes. People have been advised of all these plans well in advance.

Good point that right on the money,

The widening of County Road 466A from the Sumter County line through Fruitland Park to U.S. Hwy. 27/441 is on schedule to take place in 2015.
Lake County Public Works Director Jim Stivender laid out the plan for widening of CR 466A on Thursday evening for the Fruitland Park City Commission.
The total stretch of CR466A to be widened is a little more than 3 miles.
The CR 466A project has been planned and programmed for more than 10 years, he said. Final design has been completed. A design update is under way for Phase 1 which includes a traffic signal on U.S. Hwy. 27/441. Phase 1 runs from U.S. Hwy. 27/441 to Sunny Court.
The current plan is to begin construction of both Phase 1 and 2 in 2015, Stivender said. Lake County will bid and construct Phase 1. The Phase 2 construction is contingent upon reaching an agreement with The Villages.
He said The Villages will start moving dirt for its Fruitland Park addition this summer. He said The Villages would like to see CR 466A moving along quicker, but said that issues of funding for the improvement have been a challenge.
Its a matter of dollars. I have 300 miles of road that need resurfacing today. And I have enough funds to do about 30 mile, Stivender said.
The Villages will pay for its portion of the project from the Lake/Sumter line to Cutoff Road.
Phase 3, .08 miles of CR466A from Sunny Court to Cutoff Road, is actually sandwiched between Phase 1 and Phase 2.

As far as I know, nothing will change with the construction material land fill or the access road that leads to it. The land fill will be surrounded by golf courses and the road will continue to be used as is.

There is a very recent article on The Villages on-line news about the lack of funding for the entire widening of 466A project.

Read it on their website.

I am far from an authority on what's going to happen.
I was only passing on information that I was told.
I know exactly what you mean regarding less (road) room as you get closer to 441.

I appreciate being corrected and/or being given better information.
