If I were to take my shop-vac and load it up with dry ice, would I have
an instant air conditioner?

How about if I put some water in before the dry ice. Would that help?

I don't know. Our grandmothers used to aim an electric fan across a tub of ice. Didn't really do much in Louisiana summer heat.

Wouldn't do it. Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. While generally not very toxic, the outgassing from it can cause hypercapnia due to buildup in confined locations. Hypercapnia is the abnormal level of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream.

I agree. You would have to open the windows in the room you are trying to cool to keep it well ventilated. This would let in hot air. Also, you would have a room full of fog. Also, I'm not sure if the dry ice would damage parts of your shop vac.

That explains a lot! I was in a stage production once where they filled the stage (before opening the curtain) with fog created by dry ice (we were all on stage at that point). Between rehearsals and performances, I ended up with walking pneumonia that year!
