I had one in high school - all I remember is that our family physician did an ultrasound treatment on it and it went away. However, I understand that some will go away on their own and that could have been what happened. I was diagnosed by an orthopedic doctor and they didn't want to do surgery unless absolutely necessary. I just happened to show it to our family doc.

A Baker's Cyst is, by definition, behind the knee in the popliteal area. My first profession was physical therapist. I saw a lot of these -- they are fairly common. They usually go away by themselves and I would definitely recommend you give it "tincture of time". Beware of doctors who proceed quickly to using cold, sharp steel.
