Default Villages WiFi Point

Wouldn't it be great if the Villages would establish its own WiFi point. Some towns do it, why not us? This would provide most of with more options in terms of television and phone use and maybe customer service from the existing providers would improve.

Sounds like a good idea.

How much per month would you be willing to pay for this kind of service?

Regards,
Don

Are you sure "most of us" in the villages need wifi and are willing to pay more in monthly amenities fees for it?

I doubt this would be very well supported by the majority of Villagers. From what I can tell; most still use flip phones from the 90's, and have little need for WIFI on the go.

I see you are joking.....BUT.....You could have gone all day and not pointed that out. As soon as Pooh has time she is gonna teach me how to work a smart phone.

I must get one. I must. Nice people are thinking just what he said. And it's true. If I had a smart phone, I could look up things wherever I am and communicate with people who are not there rather than being present with the ones I'm with.

Graciegirl - You do not need a smart phone for that, you could communicate with people that are not there with your present flip phone via texting! If I was visiting with you, I am guessing I would be too busy listening to the stories (that were being shared) to text others ;-)

If you wish to justify owning and learning how to use a smart phone in a way that is not ignoring the people you are with: Last night I was watching Americas Got Talent with some friends at a nearby outdoor bar, a lady came on the show and sang Whitney Houston's "I will always love you"...I remembered it had been written by someone that most would not think of, but could not remember the persons name, so I asked the others if they knew who wrote the song and we all took a guess, and then I Googled for the answer. None of us were correct in our guess, but all did enjoy learning the correct answer. Another example is "Chromecast night" at that nearby outdoor bar; we all take turns sharing with others the funny videos we have found online (Chromecast is a USB doggle that is plugged into the TV and is able to project what you have on your smartphone onto the TV). I guess I am trying to point out; it is not the smartphone that is making the people rude...

Correct. I am not questioning Dolly's talent, I just was surprised that she wrote that song.

Understand that WiFi is not for smart phones, it is for computers and allows you to access the internet. If you are on this site, you are using the internet and using it at a place that has WiFi or you are paying for it on your cable bill. Although smart phones can use the internet, most people use the cellphone network.

If one subscribes to Xfinity or Brighthouse, both services offer free wifi in many places for their subscribers. Xfinity has an app showing locations around the community where wifi is available. I'm sure the same applies for Brighthouse.

It's a date, Gracie.....get yourself one of them there new iPhones and you'll be up and running in no time flat.....

Richard, to correct a couple of points, wifi is for any internet capable device able to receive the signal and connect. Most people DO use their provider for internet, unless they are able to connect to a wifi, and are thereby saved from using their, often regulated, data plan. Wifi is not just for computers anymore!

Great idea, Richard

An antenna on each of the water towers should give good coverage

I pay $500 per annum for a slow, unreliable internet connection from CenturyLink so would happily pay that for a faster, reliable wireless service.

If only 10% of homes took it up that would be $2mn a year.
