Default Beware of med. Referrals

I received a call from a urologists office this week and was told they received a referral from my primary care's office..... I informed them I knew nothing about the referral and when I had my apt I would check with my primary care..
According to my primary care NO REFERRAL WAS SENT TO THE UROLOGIST!!!!
When I called the urologist office this morning and asked for a copy of the referral I was told they had to speak with the office manager.
The office manager did call me back and told me since I refused the original apt they shredded the request,,duh, do they think I am stupid.
I told the manager of that office that you never got a referral so how could you shred it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My concern, do we have doctor offices calling people with fake referrals??? Do we have medical offices trying to get more money from insurance companies?

WE ALL NEED TO BE PROACTIVE WHEN IT COMES TO OUR MEDICAL NEEDS..

Smile Paperless referrals

When I first started using a primary care doctor in TV there were a couple of occasions when they referred me to specialists.

Their method was to tell me that they were making a referral and that I would get a call from the office of the specialist to set an appointment. That is indeed how it worked.

However, the primary care doctor told me I would be getting a call. There were no "surprise" calls.

OP, it has been my Experence that Medical "specialist" have more business than they can usually take care of in a reasonable timeframe. It could just be a break down in communication between staff and a mistake made by someone along the way.

One would certainly not go to a Urologist unless needed.

My primary doc has his office make all referral appointments after checking with me for scheduling opportunities. My PC's office then calls me with the appointment particulars.
