Usually there is a button that you can either turn on or off the sound at the bottom of the screen but all of a sudden its gone and I can't figure out how to get it back. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yes I know that but it isn't there either. Can't imagine what happened to it.

Looking at my version of Vista [home edition] I clicked on Control Panel from the start Menu and found an icon for 'taskbar and start menu' I double clicked on that to open and went to the 'notification area' tab in the window that opened If volume is shown as an option - make sure it is checked - if not, check it and then click on 'apply' and click 'ok' to exit If that does not work, my control panel also shows an icon for 'Sound" - right clicking on that gives the opportunity to 'create a short cut'. I assume you could create a shortcut to place the volume device on your desktop - maybe even in the system tray - dunno. perhaps this site can help - How to Restore the Volume Control to Your Windows System Tray | eHow I like the tip on the bottom if your system has the 'Notification Area Icons' in the control panel. If all of the above fails, use Bing to search on 'lost volume icon in system tray' ************************************************** ********************************************* Found these responses for Windows 7: I'm running Windows 7. I could not quickly find 'Notification Area' in Control Panel, so I simply typed in "notification area" after clicking on the start button (lower left) Pick the first response,'Notification Area Icons'. Choose 'turn system icons on or off'. You should be able to pick which ones to show. If the volume control is greyed out choose 'Restore default icon behaviours'. And finally restart your computer. ********************************** Go to control Panel, in that open Notification Area Icons In that window in the bottom side click on the Turn System icons on or off please select on in the icon behaviour of volume, and click ok ....that's it

You can always go to the "Sound" settings in control panel.
But to bring back your sound icon, try this. Right click on the time/date in the lower right corner, you should get a menu pop up that has "Customize Notification Icons" that is where you go to control what icons you see and don't see. |
