Default The Evil Mouse

It has been nearly impossible to get anything done here in Ohio today. It seems like all I have been able to do is answer the phone. All of the candidates and their spouses have been calling about tomorrow's primary. But when I try to tell them what I think, they just keep talking and then hang up.

I did manage to read an article in a retirement publication that I wanted to share here for anyone who might be interested. The article was about retiree health insurance before Medicare.

I composed a thoughtful post where I, of course, included far more than you ever wanted to know about what I think I know about the subject. I had also included some helpful links.

I hit "Preview" and then made that fatal error that I actually have not made for quite awhile. I grabbed the mouse and automatically and stupidly clicked it on the "Preview" version of the post to try to make a correction. I know somewhere in the recesses of my mind not to do that. I don't know what got into me. And then there was nothing.

I know about the wonders of notepad, but I was just throwing caution to the wind or taking a walk on the wild side or whatever and just doing a post in the little TOTV box.

Now it is gone, forever.

I will regroup and send the information later. But I am so sad because I know that I will not be able recapture the spirit of my original creation.

Is my mouse just plain evil or do others have this happen to them?

So, if you want a couple of links about health insurance for retirees, tune in later and I will have them on here.

Boomer

Boomer,

Sometimes you can hit the back button a few times and get back to the screen with the text, then do copy/paste to capture it and copy into a new message. Probably too late now for that posting. Alas, we'll have to wait for the Reader's Digest version of your more eloquent post.

I can't tell you the number of times I've done just about exactly the same thing. I've built hours-long spreadsheets (for work) and not done interim saves, only to have the "Do You Want To Save This Doc" window pop up when I go to exit, and quite quickly I hit "No" only to have it all lost. Happens with way too many things! I've done the same with plenty of word docs and powerpoints. And like you say, the second time around just lacks the same enthusiasm/spirit.
Looking forward to the re-post as retirement healthcare is something soon to matter to me!

Despite the "save early and often" admonition, when posting, it is not possible to save. So, having done (several times) the same thing you did, I am trying to get in the habit of copying my entry before I hit the "send" or "preview" button on unfamiliar web sites - like when I'm composing a complaint to my bank or a Senator.

When this happens to me, I think to myself that I could never recreate my original post with all the facts and my original passion. The most difficult thing is to just start into it the second time. Most often I discover that my 2nd attempt is at least as good as (maybe better than) the first because I'm already familiar with what I wanted to say. I hope the same can be true for you once you start over.
