I know that this is a petty problem compared with those that a lot of you are experiencing - angry woman in neighborhood, advert for cheating with men, people saving seats in squares - but what do you think about the latest name change for items for sale to "The Villages Florida Classified Forum"?

I always look at New Posts first and it was very easy to spot the classified forum listings. Now they look very similar to all of the other forums that begin with "The Villages Florida..."

It's not as if anyone outside of TV is going to be listing or looking here, so can we please just go back to "Items for Sale" or "The Classified Forum"? Simple and clear.

Classified Advertising is called that because it is segregated into many different classifications - Cars, Electronics, Garden etc. etc.

This is not how it is done on TOTV, so calling the forum "Items For Sale" would be more accurate and, as you say, simpler and clearer.

It would also match its opposite forum - "Wanted to Buy".

And more closely match its description in the Home section.

Looks like it was a case of change for change's sake.

Possibly it makes it perfectly clear that those listing items for sale on this site must be Villagers and the items located in The Villages. I know there has been a problem with outsiders listing items for sale. This is just a guess not a fact.

especially as "Classifieds" are so much more than just "Items for Sale".

For example, in the Daily Sun they include real estate, travel, yard sales and various other classifications that have their own separate forums on TOTV.

Showing it just as "Items for Sale" gets my vote.

unfortunately, that may mean that a lot of the other forums will eventually be similarly renamed (Lost & Found, Restaurants, Contractors, Singles, Wanted to Buy) with the preface "The Villages Florida"

plus, it raises the question, "how would anyone outside of TV come across TOTV and why would they then decide to advertise stuff for sale on it?" - but there certainly are some such folks out there.

In the meantime, here's my understanding...

There was an initial transition period from the old items for sale to the new Panjo Classifieds, so both forum directories had to be supported with different names.

Because of the forum directory/folder structure, it is not simple to change a forum name so the new name stuck.

Of course, if you would rather not see the Classified posts, you always have the option to "opt out" of them by clicking the "skip classified posts" button.

Personally, it is the forum I visit most often so it would be nice for it to have a short, catchy name for easy spotting in the New Posts listing.

"Items for Sale" would certainly do it for me.

We always appreciate any and all feedback. We have changed the name of it to be 'Items For Sale in The Villages'. This should allow for it to be more distinct and easy to identify among the new posts and also reinforce that it is only for residents inside The Villages Florida.

I do not know why the owners changed from the old format but they did and will not go back to the old ways. It has been problematic for me but I have finall learned how to navigate the site. But please go back Mr. Owner. Haven't all the complaints made any impression.

I still have a couple of problems. Every time I clik and go to the Panjo site I get a threat alarm which I must click after every page, annoying. Second after several days of an item I posted for sale it goes deep into the list and cannot be brought back to the forefront. Finally it seems like a lot of posters outside of TV are using the site, just a quess from the items posted.

1) We have listened to the feedback but the positive feedback has been 99% of the feedback received. Since launching the new software to manage the classifieds there have been 2,864 items listed for sale valued at over $3,157,503. Over 1,086 items were marked as sold. There is not one single product that would satisfy every personality in The Villages so we have to use what can serve the largest audience.

2) With thousands of items for sale no individual item can stay at the top of the list. This was a big complaint with the old system and there was no way to search. You had to click through hundreds of pages to see what was there. With our new program there are categories so you can search by category and there is also a search box and you can also set your view to be not just 24 but up to 200 items at a time to view. Non of this functionality was available on the old system. There is much more functionality also built into the new system in addition to this.

3) On the old system or new system there are users that intentionally or unintentionally try to post and they are not inside the Villages. Multiple moderators are monitoring the site throughout the day and night as well as user/residents that help us and we look for anything outside the Villages and immediately remove it. If you find anything please let us know immediately and we will remove.

4) Please email us a screen shot of the threat alarm you are describing and we can assist. That is not a system wide issue so we can try to assist you directly.

I love the new format for the classified ads. I so far have posted three items for sale and found it very easy to use. I also love the size of the photos. Thanks for all of your hard work.
