Default Bookmobiles

The post about bookmobiles in the thread on Sumter Co Library reminded me about bookmobiles.

One of my earliest memories is of visiting the bookmobile in Davenport, IA at 3 or 4 years old. It started my love affair with books and, I suspect, also started me in the direction of higher education.

Anyone else remember bookmobiles? I know it is a mostly rural thing, but it is/was a wonderful way to get books to people and to turn children into readers.

I remember the bookmobile in the rural Virginia county where I was raised. I always loved the concept. I just posted a link to our bookmobile here in TV on another thread. I have always loved the public library system and am a strong supporter of the libraries. We had a books-by-mail program too. It was discontinued because of funding shortfalls. I understood, but I know a lot of elderly people loved the convenience of that program and missed it when it was gone.
