Just spoke to Geico about a new Homeowners policy on a new home I was considering purchasing from TV. I gave them the address in the Hadley Village and they said due to Geo------ activity [sink holes] they would not insure them. Anyone else running into this problem? I tried one in Poinciana and they were good to go! Are these close-out prices for the slow moving sink hole houses?

That's very odd because we purchased in Duval which is near Hadley and had no problem getting insurance. :dontknow:

Ran into the same problem with USAA when I tried to purchase a FL policy - won"t write right now due to "state rules" of today regarding hurricane coverage and mandated rates was what I was told, except for active-duty military on orders to FL.
However, business is business, so there's always someone else. Went with AAA at LSL who wrote with no problem. I can't remember ever hearing of a sink hole in Sumter County happening. They do occur in FL, but really are not that common an activity. When they occur to the point that a hole-in-the-road or a house-tipped-over happens, its a big news story with a lot of camera coverage - just like any natural surprise. |

There are people being dropped every week when it's time to renew. Getting pretty bad here. The state needs to act. The insurance companies want to insure only cars and not homes.

Does anyone have any experience using Auto-Owners to insure TV property? I think they are a relatively small company out of Lansing, Michigan. In spite of the name, they insure homes, too.

How much is homeowners' insurance through TV? More expensive?
I was told that The Hartford (AARP) will not insure. That's who we have now up here.

Now the last part --- get the gov't involved. The state is already in the insurance business. Do you know that you and I (the tax payers) already insure almost one and a half million homes in Florida thru Citizens Property Insurance Corp.? I have no idea how many homes in TV are insured through CPIC, but I doubt if it is many. We can get insurance a lot cheaper through a plethora of sources. Interesting web site showing companies and comparable prices by county: http://www.shopandcomparerates.com/HOCompareRates.htm The prices are relative, as I'm sure they vary with particulars. So, how are you doing financially? Oh, I'm doing okay, living well, but I keep reading and hearing about all those people who have no health insurance and must work 2 jobs just to get by, so the economy must suck. How's your homeowners insurance? Well, I had no problem getting full coverage from a good company at a fair price, but I keep hearing and reading about all these companies cancelling people and really jacking up prices and people not being able to get insurance in specific areas (where everyone else on the block had no problem), so the insurance situation must really suck too.

Several insurance companies, including State Farm which we have, are not writing homeowners insurance in Florida anymore. They have even said they would cancel some current policies. We have been with them over 30 years and have all our coverage with them. Hope we don't get caught up in the legislation issue. It can be difficult to get homeowners in Florida anytime.
We are in Tall Trees and thus far, NO sinkhole issues by us.
