Default Mechanics of TOTV--newbie question

Hello, I am wondering about some posts on TOTV. Sometimes I see a post that has this on it: "..." Or /// or something similar. Then other times I read a post (most recently on the Poetry thread) and the later find the poster has gone back and erased it, leaving a line or two of periods.

I was wondering if there is a specific reason for either one of these. Thanks for any explanation.

They just changed their minds about what they'd said. You can't delete your post here, so /// or ... after erasing your comment is the best you can do.

I use the row of periods .............. as a pause for effect too. It's like making a big entrance and instead of a roll of drums I get a line of ..................... those things!

Hi TCGirl and welcome to the Forum. Good question.

There was a Delete feature on TOTV for a while, and it allowed a poster to delete an entire post and make it disappear.
And then the Delete feature went away, not sure why it was eliminated.
As previous posters have said, now a poster can go back and pull up a previous post, and delete the body of the post by using a symbol of some sort, but the post remains.
I think it's probably used when posters have changed their mind, or perhaps regretted a comment they made.

Ok, that clears up things. Now, what is a bump?

The bump simply brings the thread up to the top of the list.

One could always back out of a thread before hitting "submit". I always read what I wrote before responding, but that's just me.

........ is just a good way to edit a post, when one feels they didn't want to put what they said, out there.

There is a "Preview Post" feature so a member can look at comments before actually posting them.
The "Edit" button gives us the opportunity to go back, make changes and add clarification.
But sometimes we just want to delete "what what I thinking" remarks!

Bare,

Some people might need a "sleep on it button" too.
