Default Irrigation water

I know this won't be popular amongst the more sensitive readers, but gas carts are great. The exhaust can be noticeable but compares quite favorably to the stench from everyone's irrigation system. (Remember, it sprays nonpotable liquid all over the lawn. There's a reason it's non potable.) Anyone complaining about the terror of following a gas cart thru a tunnel is either following too closely or overly anal retentive. As to storing gasoline, most folks I know keep a 3 gallon plastic can in the garage for lawn mowers and emergency cart fills. There's no smell. Is there danger? Yeah, maybe, but there's danger crossing the street or eating a hamburger made by some stranger at McDonalds. It's not enough to lose sleep over. The only disadvantage of gas carts is their noise, and that can be abated somewhat.

Muncle - Could you clarify more on the irrigation water?

My system here in MA uses the same water that comes into my house (potable). I wouldn't want to drink it from the system because it is sitting in those black plastic pipes etc. but why the smell?

Or do you use some other water source than that which is piped into the house. Like a shallow well?

Russ,
Don't know how widespread this is --- it does apply to everything south of 466 but may include some up north. Houses have two water mains that are metered separately. One is your basic potable/drinking type water used for most stuff. The other is nonpotable water and is tied to the irrigation system. It is, of course, much cheaper than the good stuff. I'm pretty sure that all common area irrigation is also nonpotable. The intent was to lessen the impact on the aquifers, and was actually done before the Village Greens were formed to impose ecology on us. Gee, the free market did a good thing. :hot: :hot:

Can't swear to this, but I think some folks re-plumbed to put the nonpot stuff on their hose taps as well.

This is, of course, open to correction by those who understand the situation better than I.

Folks,

I split these posts out of another thread.

If they appear out of order that is because it was early out with [when] I did this.

Early out with you did what? :dontknow: OHHHH I know....it was early out WHEN you did this. Statistically and demonstratively speaking, it is a good idea to sleep at 4AM. wav
