the recent issues of the village magazine the issue with the village numbers reported that village employees make a average of $870 weekly when in fact we are lucky if we make $300 bi-weekly, most of us in the service industry depend on tips to take care of our family. the village magizine is basing its salary estimates on their own salaries. so if your service is good at a restuarant, or at the bar huts on the square remember we make less and most times work harder then those who work fastfood to bring you the best experience of the villages.

The data you present to substantiate your assertion is dazzling.

The magazine is probably factoring in the Morse family's salaries to come up with such a high number. Citizens Bank employees are probably surprised to learn they make an average of $45,000 per year.

Still trying to figure out how reporting data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics gets categorized as " Villages magazine prints false pay figures of Villages employees".

I haven't read the article so I have a question. When the article spoke of a Villages Employee, was it referring to someone who is employed by The Villages, or someone who is employed by another corporation that just happens to be located in The Villages? The figure quoted by OP as wrong of $870/week (or about $45,000/year) seems accurate to me based upon the fact that the MEDIAN salary in the US is $50,000/year (according to the US census bureau).

As for Citizens Bank employees, I can say for a fact that a small business owner in Leesburg told me he and his family and his store employees cannot thank the Morse family enough, for all the economic development they have done in the area--one of which was that his children gratefully attend the Villages Charter Schools by way of his wife being a Citizens Bank employee. By the way, his gratitude was based in the fact that she started as a teller during college and worked her way up to being a vice president. In that capacity she sees how much mortgage and commercial lending is done to aid home buyers to buy their own home, and how many small businesses to grow and provide employment and benefits to others. And if the Citizens Bank employees don't like their pay, they can take their skills and training learned there and seek work with another bank or financial institution. Nobody's got them there with a gun to their head. Last edited by sunnyatlast; 09-12-2014 at 11:46 AM. Reason: added "mortgage" (lending) |

Sounds like there are several groups of employers involved and one must define exactly what "the villages employees" are. I know for a fact that the golfing folks in the field, vcdd community watch and gate keepers are all minimum wage. I believe they have supervisors at about One dollar more. I sincerely doubt there is any possibility that the "average" employee makes anywhere close to 45 grand. As far as the defensive posture regarding the like it or leave it attitude displayed by the bank that is just typical. There has already been a thread regarding the charter school and how that " gun" is held to the heads of employees with the lowest paid suffering the most. If ever there was a climate for a strong union it is Now!

Well, I found the article. As I understand it much of the employment and wage growth has been in medical, insurance and financial services, social services, scientific and technological services as well as some other areas requiring skilled workers. Some of these must be professional positions which require highly educated and trained employees who can command significant compensation anywhere.

An average is just that, an average. If there are people making significantly more than $870 per week, let's say $2000, it markedly impacts the average of those making $300 bi-weekly.
