I remember reading a little while ago that the violent crime rate in The Villages on a scale from 1 to 100 was a solid 1.
The overall crime rate on the same scale was 18 with the national average being 43.8. Does anyone know if that's still the case?

Wish I knew. Only know that I feel safer here than anywhere else I've ever lived.

The crime rate may be very low in TV but that is little comfort to those who have been victimized. I do feel a lot safer here than where I came from and I am never moving back there.

We feel fairly safe here in the villages We previously lived in a small town in Massachusetts with a lot higher crime rate than here. The population of the town was about 1/10 of the villages. A lot of the crimes were home theft, property damage, hit and runs, theft of valuables from auto.

It seems like it would be difficult to gather crime statistics for The Villages since there are at least five different law enforcement agencies involved. Lady Lake patrols the Lake county portion of TV, but they would have to have separate reports between crimes in TV and the rest of the town. Same with the city of Wildwood (which patrols Brownwood), Sumter County and Marion County. Add to that the city of Fruitland Park will soon be the law enforcement for the new Fruitland Park villages. |
