Default Dryer Venting

Just got moved into Beauregard style CYV. I noticed the dryer vent on the outside of the house wasn't blowing as strong as it should be. Upon further inspect the vent was really closed off with lint buildup. I also notice the vent was directly over the dryer too close and not inline with dryer vent. There not enough room for the flexible ducting to connect without being twisted up due to about 9 inch difference between the two. Guess I will go shopping for platform to raise the dryer with the outdoor vent so the air flow will be unrestricted. have very little room to move the dryer out.

IMO this is a fire hazard and placement of dryer restricts air flow do to the closeness and the twisting of the flexible ducting.

Something you might want to check if you have this style CYV/design where the dryer placement is directly inline with vent and twisting of the flexible ducting occurred. Or If you never cleaned out the vent. Closed off dryer vent filled with lint creates heat and airflow restriction and should be cleaned out periodically. beings my villa about 12 years old I will also be pulling out the refrigerator blowing the dust from the condenser cooling coils and the cooking stove cleaning behind it.

You're not supposed to use flexible duct as it traps lint in the folds. However, being that these are not custom-built homes and probably not designed with placement of different dryers in mind I'll bet most people have the flexible duct. I'm sure we probably do. We never have had a dryer vent cleaned until we moved here. Guess we've been lucky. Have fun getting your new "old" home ready.

See want my options are. I doubt I will find anything that makes 90 degree turn with about space of 4 or 5 inches . I can't pull it due to the door that's in front of it.

I think raising the dryer to be equal the the outside vent opening my only option at this point. last time I look for dryer connection ducting had three options, flexible plastic, flexible al. Or hard al. Jointed. We see what I find at the box stores?. Probably been like that since new, but I can't leave that way.

It has been a couple of years, but I seem to recall Lowes or Home Depot carrying metal adapters specifically for what you are trying to do. Check them out. I think these were also adjustable and were 2-3 inches deep.
Hope this helps.

That reminds me that we need to have our dryer vent cleaned out. We will use a professional to do it!

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE ONE COMMENT. THOSE DRYER VENTS THAT ARE ERECTED THRU THE ROOF NEED CLEANING AT THE TOP END AT LEAST ONCE YEARLY. I AM AMAZED HOW MUCH LINT i REMOVE EVERY TIME I CLEAN THE UPPER PORTION.

Villagetinker I done search earlier this afternoon and found what you are talking about. It's called vent periscope for close connections within 3 inches or less. Ordered one from Home Depot 0 to 18 incher beings mine is off set about 9 inches, cost $19.99. Should take of my problem. I was in shock when I seen how much blockage with lint was in mine. just wanted to give other villagers heads up. I Just glad mine electric, thought of gas with highly. Flammable lint scary.

The Villages warranty department recommends annual cleaning of dryer vents. I think that is largely related to code here. It is apparently required that dryer vents exit through the roof.

must be for newer homes, Mind vents at the side of the house. I'm afraid this is big problem going UN-noticed older housing were the lint has had time to build up over few years. Unless the ones going through the roof has lint fall catch can I could imagine build up problem over time due to gravity at the bottom going through the roof. but, I haven't seen the newer designed roof vent systems. some of us are aware of routine maintenance requirements. This was basically heads up for others, especially after I noticed the flex duct twisting problem.

And thanks for passing that heads up along.

I'm a DIY guy. I pull our dryer annually and stick my 150 mph leaf blower in the vent and poof -- it's raining lint outdoors. A little rain or a lawn mowing and the lint disappears.

I have used Desmond Harris of Covenant Janitorial for several years for my annual dryer vent cleaning. He charges $50 and will replace your smoke detector batteries if you provide them. Fast and efficient hard working gentleman. He is a youth football coach in the community and is putting two kids through college with his small business. 352-308-7457
