What is the latest on tipping your hair dresser? I have been going to the owner of the shop for a long time, so I'm out of the loop. Are the hair dressers at Cal's renting chairs or employees? Does that matter when it comes to tipping? Thanks.

My hairdresser rents his chair, therefore, basically his own business. I always tip him very well for what he does for me and he always fits me into his busy schedule when I request it.

I tip 25% and $5 to the girl who washes my hair. Neither owns the shop. They both work hard and do a good job. I read those guidelines many years ago in a magazine.
