Default Anyone set up a 529 Plan for their grandchildren?

About a year and a half ago I started one for my grandchildren who then ranged in age from 4 to 9. So far the results are good but I am finding it difficult to figure out where best to add money this year. I am using Theeducationplan.com as it offers some minor tax benefits in my tax home state although the benefits are not so significant that I would not look around for another plan to use this year. The benefit is that I pay no state income tax on the amount of the contribution in the year I make it. Although it depends on the particular fund(s) one selects their management fees seem pretty high to me. They must be beatable.

Do any of you have good experience with a particular outfit? I know many majors such as Vanguard, Oppenheimer and Dreyfus offer plans. Are any better than the others?

What are your experiences with 529 plans?
