Default Safety Reminders for Snowbirds...and full-timers too.

Now that traffic is increasing because more folks are here now I just wanted to post a reminder. I've encountered folks walking on the MMP's going the same direction as traffic. Twice I've come around a corner and there were folks on my side of the path. I always slow down when coming to corners BUT I've seen some who don't do this with their carts. The other day I slowed and nicely told a young woman (a visitor) that she'd be safer walking towards un-coming traffic. She thanked me saying that she was visiting...that her state's laws said to walk with traffic. THEN one day I was going to LSL in my cart...was just coming up on the curve going down the hill to the tunnel when I encounter a couple walking side-by-side on my side. I slowed and passed BUT wonder if another cart had been coming up that hill? Could have been an accident. People, if you have visitors that walk or run remind them about this.

Most wear light clothing but I've also encountered leisure-bikers (not the serious ones in spandex) with dark clothing on AND walkers AND runners! Not a good practice!!

the problem/issue stated really has nothing to do with the increasing population as I see it every single day. Me and the dog walk the MMP every day for 2-3 miles. And almost every day there will be someone walking with traffic.

Maybe as snowbirds come back there might be a few more....but the problem/issue is ongoing....just like no stopping at stop signs, speeding, etc.

When walking with no sidewalks like on MMP you walk facing on coming traffic on the same side as on coming traffic. When biking you ride with the traffic in the same direction as the traffic.

She was either just another of today's low knowledge youth or she was blowing smoke up your ***. No state has such a guideline.

I checked a few state laws and found none. However, they all recommend walking against the flow of traffic.

Bikes should always go with the flow of traffic.
