Default Plantation Shutters

Has anyone installed plantation shutters in their home in TV? If so, would be interested in what you bought, who installed it (you or contractor), etc.

I put them in both homes here in TV. I bought the solid shutters. Joy's Blinds did the shutters in my current home. Window Reflections in Wildwood did my Mallory house.
I love shutters. They give a finished look to a home. Of the two companies, I would use Joy's again.

Thank you for the reply. Where is Joy's? Lowe's quotes me $25/sq. ft. installed. Is that in the ballpark? It sounded expensive to me ($250-$300 per window).

I would consider plantation shutters (when I move to TV), but have one concern about them. Don't they make the room(s) dark? They appear to cut out a lot of light, even if the slats are open. What are your thoughts?

The ones I have seen installed seem to let a lot of light in AND darken the room well when desired; I hear they are also very easy to keep clean.

Are these interior or exterior shutters?

John. First go look at Lowes and Home Depot. The windows in our new house are pretty standard.

I did price them at Lowes and they came in at $250-$300 per window which seemed a little pricey to me...maybe that is a good price?

John, mine ran much higher than that per window. Shutters are wonderful. They keep out the heat, dress the windows, are easy to clean and give you as much light or darkness as you desire. I like them above all other options.

I just had Joy's Blinds do my plantation shutters. They were not the cheapest, but they have several levels of Blinds to choose from. They were very easy to work with and the installer was great! I can highly recommend their professionalism and quality. Cost wise they may be a little high.

We have plantation shutters throughout most of the house. We got ours at Village Blind and Shutters and just love them. I agree with all of the above comments. They let in more than enough light and when you close them keep the room really dark. Plus they are extremely easy to keep clean. I so happy we went with them.

Speaking about windows! Who do you use for window treatments? I want a window treatment and matching bed comfortor for our master. Also, thinking of soft valances in the guest rooms.

Any suggestions?
