Default Veterans Day Celebrations

Yesterday was a day to remember our veterans. From what I saw, a mighty good job was done nationwide.

The Concert For Valor on the National Mall in Washington had several hundred thousand people attending and the music by Springsteen and others was great and very much appreciated.

It was interesting (and welcome) that a contingent of gay and transgender veterans marched in the Boston veterans parade. I am sure most of us veterans had some gay soldiers in their units no matter when or where we served And most did not know it. All were part of our band of brothers.

One item I found interesting was that a float in the NYC veterans parade carried rapper Ice-T and he is an Army veteran! Who would have ever guesed?

On a personal note, I thought of my great-uncle, Vern Coverdell (a Marine) who was severely wounded on October 4, 1918 in France during the last few days of WWI. He received The Distinguished Service Cross, The Navy Cross, and The Silver Star for his heroic actions in that battle.
