Default Motor Scooter on the paths?

Not sure if it's new or not, but I've seen a few people who ride motorized scooters/mopeds on the multi-use trails here in TV. Is it legal? Anyone know?

Thanks.

"Who is allowed to use the multi-modal paths throughout The Villages?

This is a question that the District receives on a regular basis.

The multi-modal paths are for use by NON-AUTOMOTIVE, nonvehicular traffic such as bicycles, golf carts, pedestrians, and skaters.

It is not legal, nor is it smart to drive vehicles such as smart cars, motorcycles, or mopeds on any of the multimodal paths in The Villages."

That being said, street legal carts should not be aload on the multi-model paths either.

By definition in FL law, they are excluded. If it is capable of exceeding 20mph, it is no longer a golf cart, it is an LSV.

There are about 50,000 golf carts in The Villages, how many do you think are LSVs, maybe 100? Are they really a problem? Some regular carts have bee clocked at close to 30 MPH. Much bigger problem.

Both alzjr and Lovey2 ignore the fact that it's illegal. I wasn't looking for reasons why something "should" be okay to do, but if they should be. I know there will always be people with opposing opinions and while it's their right to present them it is of no use to anyone.

Thanks to all who answered the question. It is very helpful.

I enjoy reading opinions. That's how I learn. I find them useful. Speak for yourself.

Another example of "self entitlement" rearing its ugly head here in the Villages. If its written that its illegal than its illegal. Some folks still think that if they deem it acceptable then its ok.

Has nothing to do with OP's question.

I might be mistaken, but I believe that there is a class of motor scooter that does not require a drivers license and is legal on the multi modal paths.

It could be electric scooters and scooter under 50cc.

I'm not sure, but I've seen something about this somewhere.

I don't mind sharing the paths with lsvs, they have many more safety features than a golf cart. particularly the 4 wheel hydraulic brakes and an emergency brake. furthermore there are roads like bv and others that are not safe to be on at certain times. so if an lsv comes onto the path for a while that's ok with me.

This has come up several times before and I think before 2010 or 11 you could ride scooters done the trail. (scooter 50CC or more, with speeds up to 60MPH, MOpeds 49CC or less single speed with limited speed up to 35 MPH.
So, when you say scooter it goes a lot faster and has multi speed gearbox in most cases. when you say Moped it's CC's and speed limited. JUST like LSV.

It's illegal to run through stop sign also, but see it every day. So, we allow certain LSV's on paths but not Mopeds. I would say that I would NOT want be on BV or MB on 49cc scooter with Single speed gears that will verily break 25 MPH either. Also no way to get to squares if you live on the other side of the major road without going on 466A,44A, or 466 on moped.

IMO It's OK for Golfer's to speed going down the paths to and from there all important tee times, but don't let a card carrying paying person ride little bitty moped down the path that get over 100MPG. Mopeds are not the same as motorcycle just like golf carts are the same as LSV. I guess could buy mini bike or ORV and drive merrily down the trail. They need to take the multi out of the multi-M-Trails cause the restrict personnel transportation.

This is not the place to change any rules, I sure somebody knows who to call or go to try to get it heard before board. If enough go and be heard and explain the difference between Moped, scooter, and Motorcycles something might happen (I dough it).

It may be illegal, but it appears that there is no way to enforce the "law", so I guess anything goes. I've been here a year now, and so far this issue remains close to last place on my peeve list. In order to move up, a lot of dogs need to develop agoraphobia, a lot of ladies need to stop scowling when I use the word, "Ma'am", line dancing must fall out of fashion, golfers need to start respecting the course, and someone has to start serving a decent gumbo around here.
