We live in Summerhill and have gas. I believe gas is available north of 466.

It appears that gas for cooking was available through the development of Largo. When Duval and the other new villages were built, gas was no longer an option. According to the sales department, there were more requests for electric cookiong than gas so it became more econimcally feasible to offer only electric. Since there are no gas lines being put in the new areas, I assume that propane would be the only option.

There are new homes in Amelia and Hadley, and maybe some in Hemingway that still come with gas ranges but I was told by our sales rep that they were not going to build any more homes with gas appliances. Could be a cost cutting measure on the part of the developer but more likely a reflection on the economics of natural gas going much higher in the future versus electricity. Back in the day we all wanted natural gas appliances because that was a cheap fuel but not so today.

The "no gas" decision by the developer took "new" houses off of our radar. We will be looking at resales because of it. I personally think there is a big difference between electric and gas from a cooking standpoint. A difference that is important enough to influence this decision.
I can not substantiate, so will not repeat, but the reason I heard (from a pretty reliable source) for no more gas isn't posted here so far. |

I may have heard the same story Susan heard. I love cooking with gas. I burned up three pans until I got used to it. Now I would never want to switch back to electric. Gas is like instant gratification when cooking!

My house is almost 3 yrs. old, in the Village of Caroline, and has gas range. I love, love, love cooking with gas. However, it does seem like it may be more expensive than electric in these times.

I LOVE cooking, we entertain at dinner parties a lot here in Ohio and I have two convection wall ovens and my microwave also has a convection feature. I have a flat cooktop, it is so easy to clean.
In my life, I have had both gas and electric ranges. I don't find much difference besides the immediate response to lowering or raising the heat. I find I don't use the convection feature of my ovens much. I think that The Villages may have been influenced by the recent advertising campaigns of the local utilities companies. I hear that the gas company's slogan was "LET'S BEAT ELECTRIC and the electric utility's slogan was widely used and stated... LET'S PASS GAS! Sorry. ;D

Liberty Park has gas. I heard a rumor that TV isn't putting gas in the new developments because it is too expensive to put in the gas lines. The builder had a good deal to put the pipes in the older infastructure, but now the deal is not so sweet. This is the rumor we heard. I love gas. I've had electric for over 30 years, and now I wouldn't go back.

graciegirl....you say you love your cooktop and it is so easy to keep clean. I, too have a cooktop...and hate it. Everytime I cook my cooktop is black where the pan was. I have changed pans, thinking that was the cause....but to no avail. Do you get the black marks and if not what kind of pans do you have?
Sorry this has nothing to do with Gas cooking, but needed to know about the easy to clean cooktop.

Meriboo, it comes off with a brillo pad and I use all kinds of pots and pans. The brillo pad will not hurt the top. (Doesn't hurt mine anyway and it is a GE)
