Default VE Day today.

Salute to the Veterans of WWII in TV. My uncle lost a leg, arm, and part of his skull cap around 1943 fighting in Italy. This was from a German tank tree burst shell which took out most of his scouting party.

About ten years ago, my wife's family had reunion. All of her uncles, and her father, were WWII vets. Each of the uncles in turn sat before the family and recounted their WWII exploits and had everyone in awe of their experiences.

One was a Navy medic who served on Iwo Jima with the Marines; another was a bomber pilot that was a German POW for two years, my father-in-law was in the Navy and recounted the loss of his brother in a destroyer off of Guadalcanal.

I left the reunion with the feeling that I had just been with true heroes. They were "The Greatest Generation"
