Default New to The Villages- lots of questions

Hello,

I was recommended to come here and post my questions, hope I am in the right area! Today I just accepted a job managing a couple of the golf courses within the community. I am currently living in Downtown Orlando and I am looking to relocate around the Villages. As I am under 55, and have a family and two small children, can anyone recommend some nice areas to live ( looking to rent a single family home in the short term), what are the schools like, is it safe to raise a family etc. as I have really no idea as to the regulations.May I say on my couple site visits to the courses I was blown away by the size of the community and everyone was very friendly!

Thanks, Wes

There is a new family development called Oxford Oaks in Oxford, Fl. The Villages sales reps can show them to you. They may have some spec homes available.

If you work for the Villages, your children would be able to go to the Village charter school.

There are three family villages in The Village and as stated above the Charter School is open to you.

Here are maps for each of 4 family villages (see tabs for each).

ExternalSalesMap

And this real estate search page of The Villages, searching for family neighborhoods, shows these listings:

The Villages - Florida's premier active adult retirement community. Search Resale Homes

These links are shown on the K-12 Charter Schools' website, Employment page. The charter schools are FL public "workplace charter", designed to attract good workers of all kinds who have children who cannot live in TV with its rule that kids under 19 cannot live in TV. Parents bring their children to school when they come to work, and they come from many areas including Orlando.

Nobody manages "a couple of golf courses" unless, perhaps he/she is a maintenance supervisor.

Some folks I know that were hired to work for The Villages told me that they were given comprehensive information about this place including housing choices, educational information for people with families and of course other important things like insurance and how we are governed and policed.

I am really disappointed to hear that you weren't helped by your employer in the same way.

You got it... I am a golf course superintendent and will be supervising maintenance activities on 5 of the 9 hole courses. I am currently at Dubsdread Golf Club in Winter Park. Looking forward to starting up there in a couple weeks!

If you are not aware of it, the The Villages Charter Schools are ranked as the 9th best school system in Florida!

I agree that the Charter school is your best bet. If I were in your shoes I would go to the school, introduce yourself and see if they could help point you in the right direction. If that doesn't work I would go to the schools sport and stage events, bring your kids and meet other parents. I'll bet they have the best advice.
