Default Moving

We will be moving to the Villages from western Massachusetts in September. We have recently obtained several estimates from movers. Would like to ask if anyone has been pleased with the movers they have used and would like to recommend someone in the Albany, New York area. One of the movers we talked with said that some villages or not accessible by the big moving trucks. You end up paying an additional fee to have your things taken from one truck to a smaller truck which is very costly. Would like to know anyones experience with this. Thank you for any reply. SMP

The mover couldn't get to my house because the street was too narrow. I had already hired someone to help unload the truck ($200.00), it was an additional $100.00 for him to unload at Albertson's, take things to the house and unload his trailer there. I also had to rent a U-Haul (approx. $60/w gas). So, not an exorbitant amount extra but definitely not fun.

The cost would have been a lot more if I had used the mover/driver to unload, possibly up to $1,000 extra, or had I hired a professional team to unload. This was a "pack and load" (I did the packing and loading/unloading -- w/help -- they did the driving) company.

We live at the end of a cul-de-sac that has a circle ...the large moving trucks (tractor trailers not the 32 foot moving vans) have to back up a long street and if you are at the end of the street...well they cannot turn in the cul-de-sac and although they can get close...its not at the front door.

I had to pay a little extra for leaving my home up north, because the van couldn't get down the street. Had to have the little truck-to-big-truck system - for less than 200 feet >

But here in TV the truck made it up the street to my house, at the circle on a cul-de-sac, but had to back out. I was glad that I wasn't doing the driving of that huge vehicle!

I think I'd worry most about streets in Villa areas - a big van might virtually close the street!
