Default landscaping rocks

we bought a CYV in Hadley this winter. We want to replace the pine straw mulch with rocks. Does anyone have any recommendations on the type of rocks or color of rocks to use? Also, anything special I should request for any landscaper in performing the work? Finally, let me know if you have any recommendations on contractors to perform this work. We are totally new to this process and appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks!

those two threads are worth a read. we plan to do the same thing in time.
I think the rock color might depend on your tastes and villa color. Our villa is tan and we're likely going to put some of the darker red lava rock up close to the villa for contrast, and perhaps a bit of river rock on the fringe, but this is just some far out planning. good luck.

Although rock mulch may not be permanent it comes close. Once in it is not easy to replace so make certain it is where you really want it. If you are planning a lot of planting it adds to the task. Over a period of time it tends to sink into the earth and also dirt collects in it making it susceptible to weeds. Do not pull them as this brings up more dirt. Roundup or a similar product is the solution to weeds.
We put ours in 6 years ago and it has needed some replenishing. We found Dirt Cheap had a good selection and price but that was six years ago. They are on east side of 27/441 north of
The Villages.
Last, but not least, placing a "weed barrier" under the rock may be advantageous but spend the extra $$ and get one with a long life.
Good luck.

The only rock natural to Florida is a beige/cream mix -- all others are trucked in and more expensive -- be aware that some lava type rock breaks down easily when walked on -- hire a good landscaper like All American Kwik Kurb, and Cheap Dirt has rock samples -- Beware of the many discount operations for landscape and palm trees -- also, rock needs an edge and I recommend you pay a bit more and get concrete or at least a metal edge -- Good luck --

We had our rock shipped in from Pa...John has a rock yard there...

I tried to have them shipped for resale but the landscapers did not want to pay the price..God Knows they like to charge enough for them though! :

I had river rock installed by a company named Have Rock Will Roll, gentlemens name I believe was Steve, he did a great job, he installed a mesh barrier first the put the rocks on top. I thought he was very reasonably priced, we love the rocks.
