Default Arrival priorities?

Hi All,

After lots of research and several brief visits, I will be arriving at TV tomorrow for a one-month rental, which I plan to extend until I find a home to purchase. Would appreciate any feedback on 'should/must do' activities, events and places to visit in my first couple of weeks to get the true flavor of TV and perhaps target a preferred area within TV for purchase. I'm a single 61 year old recent retiree from Massachusetts and would also be interested in specific clubs, activities and meeting places that cater to and/or attract a singles crowd.

Thanks,
ADR0317

There is a singles forum identifying lots of fun things going on all the time. I don't want to not have my husband because he is the best, but sometimes I am jealous. All of the rec centers have copies of the Recreation News which lists all the clubs and more. The Daily Sun has lots of information. In my opinion, you need to have a golf cart. If one doesn't come with your rental, consider renting from TV Golf or an independent.

There are several singles clubs that cab found thru the rec news on Thursday's paper. I would subscribe to the Daily Sun 352.753.1119 as the "lifestyle" section will let you know what events are taking place.

I would go on the trolley tour to get a good feel of how big TV is and definitely buy a map at the sales center. Go to the squares and talk to anyone and everyone you meet, to see how friendly everyone is.

Travel about TV in a golf cart but I would rent a gas cart as TV is very big and "gas cart" is the better option, for exploring.

Just relax and enjoy your time here. Good luck!!!

I am recently single so I find myself restarting my life in The Villages. If you'd like a exploring buddy, I'd be happy to show you around. Massachusetts was my home too. Donna

There is a Massachusetts Baystaters Club and a Southeast Massachusetts club here. The Baystaters club will have their next meeting in September on return from summer break. They also have a website.

Good approach. Location is the key. Activities are the same all over.
First do you want a new or older area. New might be easier to meet the neighbors.
Are you going to use a golf cart? If yes be sure to use it a lot so you get use to the area.
Consider grocery stores, doctors, and places you will go often.
Think about how much time do you want to spend getting to the above.
I would try and be a golf cart ride to a local shopping area and within a 5/10 mile ride to doctors, restaurants and larger shopping areas.
Pay attention to how close you are to your neighbors, how private you outside area will be. What traffic will you have on your road. Headlights shining into your home.

I , also, am 61 and from Massachusetts. I will be passing papers on my house in the village of Sanibel in the middle of June. I am in the same boat you are, single and looking to meet people. Maybe I'll see you at a Baystaters meeting.

Agree, for rental gas carts are better....for purchase explore electric. Even The Villages Golf Carts has figured it our and is no offering electric.....just had to reignite the electric vs smelly loud gas.....

And talk to everyone you can......people here are friendly and helpful and it's easy to open conversations. They will tell you where they live and what their decision process included. At the squares, at the bars, at the coffee shops just ask.......it will be helpful.

"Might be" is right. Meeting the neighbors in a developed neighborhood is a snap - if one is willing to host a driveway party and hand deliver invites to the neighbors as a means of introducing oneself! Provide the snax and mixers and ask neighbors to bring their own and a chair! And have a rain date!

I'm single and also from Massachusetts, I retired in December. I wouldn't mind exploring and hanging around with you also. I've only been here since January and haven't really met anyone either. Been too busy getting the house set up.
