Has anyone had experience yet of traveling to Cuba? Is there a travel agent in our area who has expertise? Any suggestions? I believe JetBlue is starting service in June and have heard of a ferry from Miami.

I'd love to visit Cuba especially to go diving. But that is not allowed. My folks were in the Havana hotel the night before Fidel took it over for his headquarters at the start of the Revolution.

I lived in Havana Cuba for 2 years from 1994 to 1996. I was with the State Department Foreign Service branch, so I was there legally and really enjoyed that tour. It's a small congested city, can't imagine what it will be like when the tourists hit it. It's also really run down and I believe most buildings are probably beyond repair and will most likely have to be torn down. Hopefully, they will rebuild in a similar style and bright colors. But, the beaches???????????? HEAVEN on earth. Unspoiled by all the tourism.

I'm sure there would be great diving there. My only trip to Cuba was to Gitmo courtesy of the company jet when I was still in the service. We were able to snorkel a few times. I really would like to see Cuba and the United States reestablish relations and do business.

My folks took a cruise from Miami following the championship fight with Floyd Patterson and stayed at the Copacabana Hotel. The following morning they got on the ship back to Miami just hours before Fidel took over the hotel as his headquarters ..a close call! Our foreign policy has been lacking for many years..IMHO

Cuba is already a successful tourist destination. Canadian,British and European tourists have been going there for close to 30 years. When Russia was still under communist rule the cosmonauts were sent for r and r to Varedaro. My neighbour from Russia also stated it was very cheap for Russians to go there for package holidays. Read some trip reviews and forums on Tr-- Adv----. We went in 1997 and prices in Havana for certain things were the same as a large city, such as Havana Club(rum) and Coke $7.99!! It is also a place that people absolutely love or hate. Some Cubans working at resorts are better off than most as all the gifts brought to them by tourists are then sold at flea markets.

Go there and spend your hard-earned money where most Cuban citizens are not even allowed to enter, much less get a job to earn a living.

Then watch to see if any of the U.S. television news networks film and broadcast the Castros laughing at you all the way to the Swiss bank.
