My wife and I are avid tennis players. We're moving to TV in early June and while there are attractive deals on houses in the new sections, they aren't convenient to good tennis facilities like the Har-Tru courts at Glenview and Nancy Lopez. This rules these areas out for us. Why hasn't the TVs included a good tennis facility South of 466A? I know there's pickle ball.....but pickle ball ain't tennis.

Are there any tennis aficionados in the new sections South of 466A and where do you play? We're going to be looking for a house and availability to tennis is very important to us.

If you want Har-Tru courts, your only choice is Glenview & Lopez. We have several players south of 466A playing there. There are many organized groups depending on your level of play. I run a group (3.5 - 4.0) on Saturdays at Lopez @9:30 if you are interested contact me.

We all know golf is the main attraction to the villages (although pickle ball may over take it)
Not all of use here for golf, so we suck hind tit. There are lots of tennis players here. There are Three tennis clubs for fee, two with clay courts and one hard courts. Plenty of free hard courts at rec centers all over the villages for free. Rumor was at one time there was tennis club planned way south with stadium court? But, got selfed probably for lack of space?
Pickleball has more people and IMO second or third most popular sport in the villages, some say baseball maybe no 2?. I think the villages needs stadium courts for pickleball so fans can watch the pros play when they come to villages. Glenview has stadium style court ( court 1). If you move way down south really not that far to Glenview. I live way up north and go south all the time for pickleball.

A villages salesman told me the number one activity here is bowling. Golf ranks fourth, surprisingly. The same salesman told me there would be no more clay courts built.

Some of us drive all over this place to get to our special interests. Not all art classes and music groups are held conveniently in our own village. The Sharon is very north as well. Many of us enjoy the golf cart ride.

There are homes for sale in Glenbrook, too if you want to be near Glenview tennis.

Haven't met any veteran golfers who would complain about getting to a course. AND we do have to drive sometimes to do that.

It is not unusual for tennis players in metropolitan areas to drive over 30 minutes to play tennis. If done after work, that may mean fighting rush hour stop and go traffic.

In The Villages it is less than 30 minutes to Glenview and Lopez from the new homes south of 466A. On top of that, it is a pleasant drive with great scenery.

I was told a couple of years ago the reason no Har-tru south of 466 is they would have to be self sufficient do to the maintenance they require. Apparently the play at Glenview and Lopez is not proving enough to make the courts self sufficient, the price to play has gone up in the ten years I have been here. Pickleball "ain't" tennis and tennis ain't pickleball, each has their followers, but if you are coming to The Villages don't put down pickleball, you will be in the minority.

Perhaps I should have explained that I currently play tennis 6 days a week and that's the reason I'm concerned about the distance to the Glenview / Lopez facilities as we look to buy a house in TV next month. It could add up to quite a bit of travel time.

Here's a dandy. Look in Harmeswood, too. Very close to Glenview.

Not to sound flippant, but unless you have to be at work or somewhere at a specific time after playing tennis, the travel time shouldn't be a problem. The pace here is a lot slower than you may be used to. It took me a while to adjust, but now I don't worry about travel time. It's beautiful here and, sometimes, a long golf cart ride is the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy the scenery.

I live down south in Fernandina and play tennis 5-6 times a week up at Glenview or Lopez. And we moved from a closer location to the courts (Poinciana).
I would place proximity to Glenview/Lopez about down at #15 or so in my requirements when looking for a new home - nice to have but certainly not necessary. 25 minutes each way by car really is not that much. YMMV

Hmmmm, spending several hundreds of thousands of dollars and the priority is not wanting to drive (by car) 15 - 20 minutes to Glenview or another 7 to Lopez. Are you sure those are your priorities? Of course as the other posters have stated, there are other courts down here, maybe not the surface you want, but they are around.
