This cute little Bichon is named Teddy. He is available for adoption from BratPack.

Omg. He is adorable! Love him but now after a discussion with a woman in my art class I am so undecided again. Major decision for us as we are never home, very active and travel often. Not sure what to do. This woman who owns a dog was talking me out of it

I think you should get at least two, that way they can amuse themselves. As far as travel, mine go everywhere and are better behaved (and better dressed) than most children.

It's not just the fact we are so active, She said she doesn't like having to run home to take the dog out all the time, then she talked all about the expenses, then worrying about pet sitters and on and on. So she pretty much piled on the disadvantages which I know are all true (we have had our share of dogs too). While we were departing I told her she is probably right but maybe down the road we'll adopt (again) and she said don't , when you get older the dogs are always under your feet following you around and you can trip over them easily and fall (which may be a valid point too). Yeeks my head was spinning and it is and remains a difficult decision not to be taken lightly as I would never want to bring a dog home only to find its too much and have to return him. Meantime teddy here is so adorable and we are still torn

It's apparent that Teddy's coat had to be clipped very short so keep in mind he will be even more gorgeous when it grows out.

In any event, it sounds like at least one of you is very undecided about having a pet. Please think very carefully before adopting one. This isn't something that can be done cavalierly. People adopting or buying because they want "arm candy" (and I'm not saying that's you at all) are one of the reasons there are so many pets in the rescue centers. I have personal experience with it with a couple of friends, and it is a very sad situation for the dogs and cats.

They require a large expenditure of time and money--socialization, training, health maintenance, and care while you're gone when you can't take them with you. It's one of the reasons the rescue places are so strict in vetting possible adopters. You can't throw these pets out if it doesn't work out, and they really want to find committed people to take these pets in.

Something to think about. Good luck to you in your decisions.

I've heard some people here say that they dog sit for their friends and neighbors when it is convenient. That's the best of both worlds! You get your dog fix and you can send it home and "be free" when you need to. People are always looking for dependable pet sitters. They are worth their weight in gold.

Hula hips here (yes female). Of course we are giving this tremendous thought. I think if we lived somewhere other than the villages our decision would be much easier. We are on the go day and night here and we are discussing it thoroughly. We won't jump into it without weighing all pros and cons. Will keep u posted. Meantime I'm sure Teddy will find a nice home as he is so darn cute!

One thing I have heard about Bichon's is that they do not like to be left alone. So maybe Patty55's idea of getting two would be a good one.

Think we will pass on double trouble. If the bischon does not like to be left alone , then it just won't work for our active lifestyle. We are not willing to give up our activities at this stage in our life. Maybe when we are older and home more it could work so thanks for the info. It did help us see things realistically and help us make the right decision!
