Has anyone had any luck with vinca? Do they like sun or shade? Do you need to pinch back or prune? What type of care is needed?

Mine in NJ are doing very well in 70* to 80* weather in direct sun with 2x/week watering. In our latest 90* days - they wilted even with daily watering. Cooler temps this week are helping them heal.

Ours look awesome and they are in full sun but they have little water spigots my husband put next to them for water 2 times per week.

Very easy to grow and maintain. Big plus-rabbits don't eat them.

Vinca's are great for this hot weather. They thrive in the heat, (especially planters). When they start to grow too long, I trim them down so wind will not hurt them. You will get plenty of seedlings in area where they are grown, and lots of times after winter, they start to come up again. (the old plant) Easy to grow for color

Experiencing with new window boxes. So far this is only flower that hasn't died. They will look beautiful if they really fill in. The colors are gorgeous! Hope they last. Will send photos if I can figure out how. Thanks everyone!

When you originally asked about what to plant in your window boxes, I suggested Vinca. I just discovered how well they do and somehow have survived my almost drowning them and forgetting to water them and the awful heat and direct sun. They are amazing, hardy and full of blooms.

I planted vinca 3 years ago in front of a rock in my yard. The wind Blows the seeds and it pops up all over. Blooms all year round. I just water and give it Miracle Grow once a month! It is in the sun all day!

I place vinca right up there with succulents for Florida heat and sun. Not for very shady or perpetual moist soils. Can become somewhat invasive in gravel mulches, and I have seen them growing out of the expansion joints in the driveways of vacant summer homes. But face it, if you are going to have a weed, it might as well be vinca.
