Default The People Spoke

This morning at 10 am, the confederate (not capitalized) battle flag came down from display on the South Carolina Statehouse grounds. The people spoke. A courageous governor listened, and the flag is now in a museum where it belongs.

Too bad that Marion County is backward. It makes Florida a laughing stock.

BS!
If it were put to a vote, I would not bet it would wind up thsame way.
Anytime.....ANYTIME.....politicians move this fast to implement ANYTHING....it is a sure sign of self preservation and re-election concerns.

Has nothing what so ever to do with what the people said.

Sounds good though....for a nano second anyway.

You are of course referring to a vote by bigots, racists and other assorted jerks. You Sir are in there somewhere.

The confederate flag went up in 1961 because 9 young black men tried to get served at a lunch counter. It's ironic that it came down today partly because 9 black people were murdered while attending bible study by a confederate flag fan, for no other reason than the color of their skin.

This is a start and God bless South Carolina for taking this action, but now confederate flags must be taken off of federal land everywhere in the country.

Were any of you kids the ones who said it was wrong to blanket everyone together, or is calling bigot and racist just something that is inborn in you ?

It is amazing. While post #2 was a bit abrasive, the kids on this forum light on threads like this and ignore any issue driven discussions like the plague.

It must be easy to just wait and yell racist and bigot. Makes it easy and saves thinking.

Wonder what the difference might be between this non thinking crowd and the white power groups are. Both just spout hate....none of them think.

Default Good Going, Wal-Mart!

I just read that a Wal-Mart in Arkansas did not complete the sale of a high school ring because the mascot was waving a confederate flag. They returned the money to the customer and said the ring will be melted down for other jewelry.

The ring was ordered before Wal-Mart decided not to sell items with confederate flag but was caught before delivery.

We all know it is difficult to come up with any different words than the very few you know.
And that your inspiriation just blossoms as you look in the mirror.
I see you follow in the footsteps of your president by selective application of the constitution as you see fit.
The usual expected !

You are either the same poster as number 3 above or the assistant leader of his name calling 'Clan" (pun intended.....get it?).

This thread has been misnamed. It should not be "The People Spoke"but rather "The Blacks Spoke"and the politicians caved in fearing another Ferguson size riot and the loss of votes. Taking down the Confederate Flag is not going to make one iota of a difference in this country as respects the race issue.

South Carolina's politicians would have been wiser to initiated a referendum and let the people of South Carolina decide. The Flag was simply a symbol of the past and now politicians have given this symbol new life.

I for one salute Marion County for taking a stand on individual freedoms. Those celebrating this as a victory are ignorant of the potential consequences.

The South Carolina legislature is controlled by the GOP and is every black person voted Democrat that would not change one bit. So quit your race baiting that the only reason the flag came down is fear of loosing elections because of black voters. The flag came down because enough people now realize that the racists own that flag no matter what it meant 150 years ago, it now for way too many people is a code for their KKK sympathies. And with Mr Roof, it is finally obvious to enough people that any argument about Southern Pride is over. That flag was carried into war AGAINST the United States by people who were spurred to action to defend the peculiar institution of slavery. Think it was about "states rights"? You could not be more wrong about the constitution of the CSA to allow states to self determine the right to own slaves.

So slaves were owned by the wealthy plantation owners and the middle class and poor went to battle and killed by the thousands to protect the rich folks being able to own slaves?
Doesn't seem to make sense!

Some people do have deeper knowledge and personal roots than what is presented by the television set, media moguls, politicians and special interests.

Like the example or not, but as Farakahn said the week after the killings in NC and the confederate flag, the flag of the USA can just as easily be made to show that it stands for repression of more than just blacks or latinos or muslims......if a group thought they could make the case.
Before pouncing.........key words COULD.....MAKE THE CASE....THOUGHT.

What is not presented by anybody is the origin of the confederate flag. Why the colors? Why the "bars and stars". The real roots of the flag not the reimaged convenience of today.

MAybe this will help some either for or against:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_...tes_of_America

And for those who are so quick to make assumptions what this poster is saying....don't bother because you will only get it wrong again.

It is so very simple. Just asking what do folks really know about the subject....NOTHING MORE!

Good post.

As is/has been discussed, this is all about controlling the narrative. Substance does not mean a thing.

An honest narrative on race would be great, but without hearing all sides, it is not going to happen. An example.....during race riots in Ferguson, Baltimore, etc. IMMEDIATELY the conversation was seized to condemn whit police. If you dared mention that the blacks committed crime, you were dismissed as a racist. Now after some time, we are seeing the folly of those riots and how they were based on lies.

There needs to be discourse for sure, but it cannot be done when the conversation is steered and controlled. This thread began by the OP calling Marion County a blemish in the state. Does she have any idea of history of that flag...does she present even ONE reason to condemn the county ? NOPE

But remember, micro aggression and control of the conversation is FUNNY, and you have only TWO choices...progressive or regressive.

How do you talk with people so narrowly pigeon holing everyone to suit whatever their reason might be ?
