Default Mailboxes

Another question....sorry to have to keep bothering all of you.....we just visited our new mailbox in Lake Deaton today and the problem os the box is very low. I have developed a pretty bad hip problem and cannot bend down without a lot of pain. Is there some way we could request a box that is accessible for me? Otherwise, my husband will be the one getting the mail.
Thanks all.

Can't hurt to ask but I doubt they'll be able to accommodate you. Ask your mail carrier or call the Lady Lake Post Office. Think the boxes are assigned by address and I imagine it would create tremendous confusion if the addresses weren't in order.

Hope your hip gets better.

I would get an MD to "prescribe" a higher mailbox for medical reasons. I don't think they would ignore it. The Americans with Disabilities Act is also a way to go if it is permanent.

MikeV, I think you meant a higher box, but I have another suggestion.

OP, when you go to the lady Lake post office see if they have an insert that can be used with your mail box. If so this might work for you as you would have a single item to grab. Also, if the post office does not have this, ask if they would object if you obtained one and would they use it? The other option would probably be to have your mail forwarded to one of the pack and ship, but I do not think this can be done on a permanent basis.
Hope these ideas help.

I know the boxes go in sequence with your address. For example, my one neighbors is just above mine and my other neighbors is just below mine.

Thanks for the responses. I hope it is not permanent and I am having prolotherapy in Ft Meyers but it will probably be at least six months until I know how I will do. I will ask the PO for an insert. I am sure I could ask the MD for a 'scrip' for a higher mailbox, but I hate to do that as others may need it more.

I'm still amazed that they installed mailboxes that low in a retirement community. Ours is on the bottom row, which is about six inches above the sidewalk. We both have back problems. We take turns having to bend over to get the mail.

They must think everybody here is under 40.
