I can't help you with a recommendation for a doctor, but may I make a suggestion. There are other steps that your friend might consider taking.

You could start by calling Hospice to see if they have counseling available. I don't know about TV, but in many areas, Hospice has group counseling. I do not know if they offer individual counseling. If the local Hospice has nothing on site, they should be able to direct you to help from other sources. Also, Hospice might be able to help you find a doctor who understands and monitors medication if it becomes necessary.

I think there are churches in TV that have groups to help with grief. If your friend is open to what a grief group at a church could offer, you might want to call around to see what is available. There is a program called Stephen Ministry that many denominations have. Individuals go through training to work one-to-one for helping others through various kinds of difficulty. My guess is there are lots of Stephen Ministers in TV and probably those for whom grief counseling is their strong point. Of course, this would be faith-based which must be by the individual's choice.

For some who are grieving, daily exercise can help. Also and interestingly, so can trying creativity of some kind. These things can be part of an overall approach to helping.

But grief is a big, sad, intricate picture.

Grief is an individual thing. No matter what they say, there is no formula or staging or timeline. Grief must be acknowledged and worked through.

You might want to start an additional thread asking for information on grief counseling and/or groups in TV.

Thank you for being a good and kind friend, trying to help.

I have never seen any mental health professionals advertised in the villages. What a shame when so many are losing their health, spouses, parents, etc and could use the help coping

I've heard good things about grief counseling through Hospice here in T.V. Also several churches offer "Grief Share" programs which also gives excellent options.

Does this person have a Primary Care Physician here, if so contact their doctor and see if they can assist this person with something to at least take the edge off and obtain counseling.
