Default Storm Preparedness

Not that I think you will NEED this, but it never hurts to have the info handy. This must be something ingrained in me from years of scouting!

Sumter County evacuation & shelter info:
Evacuation & Shelters | Sumter County, FL - Official Website

Lake County evacuation & shelter info:
Where Lake County’s shelters are located and what to bring along - Lake County Hurricane Preparedness Web Guide

Marion County evacuation & shelter info:
Emergency Management Division | Marion County Sheriff
[no listing of shelter sites that I could find at this time; guess they would be here if so activated ]404 Not Found | Marion County Sheriff

This is from the evacuation site.
"If you feel that you must evacuate, please make sure that you do so far enough in advance. Just remember that the Florida Turnpike and I-75 merge in Wildwood, and everyone south of Sumter County will have the same idea as you."

Did anyone besides me enter the locations in google maps?
Am I to assume that Sumter County Residents are only allowed to go to the sumter county shelters?

My guess is that it is a safe assumption - resulting in each county establishing its own facilities. The exception being that if you were caught in some sort of critical situation outside of your home county posing a threat to self or community that law enforcement would want you to get to the closest facility.

Marion County evacuation & shelter info:
They don't have a place to go.

And here's where me and a lot of people [Sumteronians] around me are supposed to go.

I've done a little scouting myself.

Tom - From the MCSO - "Emergency Shelter Locations - There are currently no Emergency Shelter locations activated"

Is it wrong to assume that should the emergency arise there would be shelters activated as necessary?

From the MCSO hurricane preparedness site:

"Hurricane shelters will be available for people who have no other place to go. Do not leave your home until officials announce that the shelter is open. Information about shelters open in your area will be available through newspapers, television, radio, and Emergency Management. Locations can change quickly, so stay informed.

"It is best to bring your own chairs, bedding, and food with you to shelters. Do not bring pets (unless specified pet-friendly), weapons, alcohol or illegal drugs."

Now don't go stressing any further!
