Default Deans is a Reputable Company

There was a thread started some time ago about a negative experience a poster had with Deans. Most subsequent posters had positive things to say, hence my reason for starting this thread.

We are also happy Deans customers. This is the problem when responding to an older thread.

That thread was started by a poster with only 2 posts EVER.
When I see that sort of stuff, I immediately suspect the poster is a rival business owner or employee.
Of course, my BS meter may be set too sensitive.

We also use Dean's for our lawn and extermination and like them. A couple of times we've had to point out a few what I call "complacency" issues but they were quick to take care of them and our lawn looks terrific.

Having said that, there is this one guy that came out to set our sprinkler system and he did something wrong, causing our system to greatly over water our lawn. We called and they sent the same guy out to reset the system. I watched him so I could learn how to do it and it appeared he did everything exactly right. However, again it appeared the system was over watering. As luck would have it, at the same time all this happened we were getting estimates from different landscapers. Jamie, of Jamie's Landscaping, noticed the over watering and asked to look at the system. He immediately saw that the Dean's guy had not noticed that there are six programs on the system (or maybe didn't know, or overlooked it, or something) and when he programmed our system it set it up to do everything six times, causing the extreme over watering. Not only did Jamie fix it so that only one system is doing the watering, he put in a secret code to lock out the possibility of anyone committing the same mistake again. I'm guessing the six programs are for the different times of year, etc., but I am still surprised the Dean's guy, the one they send out specifically to help set up the system, made such an error.

Overall, Dean's does a good job, but like any other company there are a few weak links in their personnel.

I haven't complained to Dean's because I didn't want to get this guy fired, but now that I think about it I may just cut and paste the post I made here and send it over to Dean's. No sense in other people experiencing the same issue.

I recommend that you let them know of your issue. I've had a couple of minor things occur over the past 3 years and they have been very responsive and corrected things promptly. For the past 2 years I have set up an appointment with a field supervisor. I have found this to be very worthwhile.

I got in trouble with the mods for pointing out a similar thing (9 posts by a poster, all only one topic; how good a restaurant was that others were having problems with) to a poster last Spring.

But I do agree with you. It always makes me suspicious.

They charge monthly. Come when you call and call you when there is a problem. Very happy.

CF - how could you possibly get in trouble? The truth is the truth.

Totally agree. They are competitively priced, responsive and their lawns to me look much better, including mine.
By the way, be careful on your "5 year bond on termites". Some companies charge you the ~$145 a year for termite inspection, than 5 years later, charge an ADDED $500-800 to recertify the bond. Deans does it in their yearly inspection and you don't get charged a large fee later. You can transfer too plus it gives you another discount with added features.

No lawn company is perfect.
But I've heard VERY FEW negative comments about Deans in the past eight years on TOTV.
Good going Deans!

I switched from Massey to Deans and its the best move ever. They respond quickly if needed. IMHO Our lawn looks better compared to other Non deans on my street.
