The dictionary defines a deadbeat as someone who aviods or does not pay their bills. Does that not discribe we Americans very well. We are now talking about a government shutdown with congress back. If the only choices were raising taxes to cover the spending or a partial government shutdown how would we vote.

Neither.
What people do not either understand or accept is the game the politicians are playing....have been playing.....play in ernest when ever it is funding time again. There are billions and billions of dollars of programs that are obsolete that consume budget dollars that are never touched as they are the favorites of which ever specific lawmaker is talking. They have an unwritten code...if you do not go after my favorite programs/projects I will not go after yours. Hence obsolete and very expensive programs continue to remain funded. Using up valuable dollars that could in fact go a long way toward funding the needed programs of today. But it is easier to cry wolf. Play the old shut down the government game. Point fingers. Get some special dispensation for delaying the inevitable and move the subject matter out in the calendar only to be repeated all over again when that time frame expires. This budgeting and financial game playing is THE perfect example of our federal government incompetence and more perfect example of we the people continually ALLOWING these incompetents to continue. Pure and simple....BS POLITICS! |

Look at all the money they would save by shutting down the gov for a day or two. Make it a month.

They were charged by the President to be honest and open about our fiscal problems. The President did not like it, not did his economic guru Krugman thus it died. Of note is that Nancy Pelosi was opposed but she keeps recently bringing it up. It was an opportunity wasted and was the first of many little dances done on this stage of fiscal irresponsibility. |

Good idea. Oops, no Social Security payment for that month (and will not be paid back). Oops, no Medicare payment to your doctors - you have to payit yourself.

How about our President talk to congress and congress talk to each other about our financial problems. NOT at each other but to each other forgetting that little D or R after their names. Admitting you have a problem is the first step. I thought Simpson Bowles was the framework but obviously our leaders did not. |

When you have an idiot president and senile old congressional idiots slandering each other, what do you get? Nothing. If you are the majority for five years, then you get crazy and nothing. If you are the first black president and a celebrity, what happens? If you are an idiot, you get away with being a tyrant because anyone that disagrees with you is a racist. I have both of Obama's books (ebooks) and he admits to being a socialist, a dope head and praying to Allah. He was a radical community activist and then subsidized by radicals he managed to get into politics. No one cared what he was, and just blindly and stupidly voted him into the white house, not once but twice. Shows how ignorantly stupid Americans are. Easily led off the cliff. Perhaps we deserve our demise.

Well said. The problem with two party system! Parties or Gangs should be outlawed. The gang only serve their masters? The lobbyists, uinions, and billionaire donators that expect something in return. If you think your vote counts, it don't due to the electoral college. Once we get ride of electoral colleges, two party system, limit terms to no more than 8 years. and go by actual votes NOTHING will change.

You want more than two parties? We have more than two but just two major parties. You want one party? Sounds like a dictatorship to me. Billionaires donating to politicians and expecting something in return? Donald Trump bragged about doing that! |

When they shut down, they have always continued to pay SS and Medicare. Nice try.

All comments so far have been as expected. No one wants to answer the question. That is why nothing will change until ship sinks. These are the leaders we elected and will elect again next Nov.

No excuses in that report at all, and in fact, our President opposed it because it would not allow all the spending he wished. It calls for us to tighten our belt and tells how. It will not make anyone happy but it does address the problem. PLEASE, why would you find that report "disgraceful". It was totally bipartisan so your premise of "stupid contrived excuses" has no merit, Please read my post #4 and explain why it is disgraceful. I am assuming that you are aware of the report and commission referenced and not simply trolling. |
