Default Washer - Dryer Placement

Our new home in Hadley didn't come with a washer/dryer. I assumed the setup would be washer on the left, dryer on the right for ease of use. I found out yesterday through my sales rep that the dryer will be on the left. This seems so awkward to me. Does anyone have this configuration? How does it work for you? Thanks.

Well it depends on how the door open on each and whether you are right or left handed. We've always had the dryer (drop down door) on the left and the washer (top load) on the right and we are right handed and it seems to be perfect. I assume the new front load types can be configured either way to make it conveinvent regardless of position.

Where are the connections? Are the water connections and drain centered on the spot? Is the dryer vent in a particular spot? Are the electric outlets accessible from either side? (Hadley is all electric, right? So no gas line issue)
Unless there is a logistical reason for the placement (meaning drain, hose and vent restrictions making it impossible to switch) you should be able to pick what you want.
Our old house had the washer on the left, the new one the washer on the right. Frankly, until you mentioned it, it hadn't crossed my mind so I would imagine you'll get used to it.

I have no idea where all the connections are. I know the sink is on the right so I guess the washer would be next to it for the connections. It's my understanding that you can change the dryer door, but you can't change the washer door (leaks). So if the washer is on the right with the door opening on the right and the dryer on the left with the door opening either way, you have to go around the washer door to put the clothes in. I love life's little mysteries :dontknow: I'm just going to have to wait and see until I get down there and check it out. I wonder if everybody will be checking their laundry rooms tonight?

19 days and counting!!

My dryer is on the left and the door opens the "wrong way," so I do have to reach around it to put the wet clothes in. It's not the most convenient thing, but hasn't been a big problem either. Unfortunately, the dryer we bought didn't have a door that could be changed.

Our washer is on the right and the dryer door is hinged on the bottom so everything works fine for us. BTW, we have Kenmores.

Thanks everybody. We're going out to look at front loaders today and see if the washer door opening can be switched. It's a minor thing, but if I have to obsess about something it might as well be this.

I am laughing in the kindest way. It is so hard to keep looking ahead. Like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Until you mentioned it, I'd never thought of it. As long as I can remember it's always been washer on the left and dryer on the right. AND until Jan brought it up, I couldn't think why the other way around would be awkward. Hmm. Well it wouldn't be easy to switch with drains in concrete.

I sure hope your door reverses, and y'know what, I'd have them switch it, for Petes sake!

Our Fisher Paykel washer and dryer are BOTH top loading, so it does not matter.

DDoug - Most of the laundry rooms in TV houses that I saw are made for normal side by side placement instead of a stack type. Other than faucet/drain placement I think this is a non issue.

For 26 years in our last house, washer was on the right. This house, 3+ years, has the washer on the left. Never even gave it a second thought. As long as there IS a washer and dryer, you'll adjust. Heck, you'll be so happy in your new life you won't be spending much time in the laundry room. You'll be rushing to get out and have more fun!!

It is the smallest problem you will ever have to worry about. Bottom line? It does not matter.
