Default Wireless Headset for TV

I have been using a wireless headset to watch TV later at night not to disturb others. Everything was fine up until about a week ago. Now all I get are the radio stations. I am not receiving any audio from the TV. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Are they Infra Red or RF? If Infra Red the transmitter may be off center to the headsets. If RF there should be a reset button on the headsets or transmitter to resync the headset and transmitter.

Aside from that how do they work? My Mrs' stays up later than me and we were thinking about trying them.

I bought a new Sony headset about 2009 after my last set quit on me. I was watching TV and the voice was from a woman not the man on the screen. The voice sounded familiar and after a while realized it was the neighbor behind me on her portable phone, not cell phone. Donna swore like a sailor to her friend and really shocked me since I've always known her as a sweet lady. I couldn't hear the other side of the conversation, only Donna.
Any transmission thru the air can be intercepted and heard whether intentional or not. Just to let you know.
