Things To Think About When Moving To The Villages

This is my occasional post of my things to think about when moving to the Villages. It is mostly for the new TOTV subscribers that might have missed the original post.

For any of you that have seen the document and have printed it out for reference, please check the last updated date above to make sure you have the most current version.

After I moved here, I compiled a list of things to keep in mind when moving to the Villages. I hope these help and I am sure that others that have moved can add and/or rebut my entries. Most of these are strictly my thoughts and experiences and can be considered, rejected, or talked over with others that moved to the Villages. Please check with the sales reps, neighbors, insurance reps, financial advisers, etc before making any decisions based on these items.

These are just to help you when you move. They are in no special order and have been helpful to friends that have moved to the Villages. I do not personally endorse any companies that I mention in this document. How is that for taking the fifth!

After I first posted this list, I received input from many TOTV members. I have added their input to my original list. My thanks to them for their input. After reading some of the posts in other areas, I sensed some confusion so I have added info about amenity fees, bonds and property taxes. I continue to update the list when I see new posts that contain topics that need covering. If you saved or printed the list, I would suggest that you do the same for the revised list. I have dated the additions so you can decide if you want to save the new copy. New input or rebuttal is appreciated.

Good thing I'll be retired when I move to Florida. ;D Otherwise, I'd don't know where I would ever find the time to complete all this stuff!

You are doing a great service for those of us that have not moved to TV yet. I have two questions from your list. Is the amenity fee per household or do both my husband and I pay each? Also, under lawn care, can you do your own lawn or is it mandatory to have the service take care of your lawn?

Amenity fee is per household.

Lawn Maintenance...you can do your own; my guess is that 80+% of the homeowners contract it out and less than 20% do their own.

Well, it may make sense to arrange it by topic.

Another thought is to try to arrange it by order that you would perform the items but many of the items would be done about the same time so I'm not sure that would work.
