Default World news and world issues are on our minds.

It is my feeling that we have a need to discuss these issues here. It is far MORE than political views in my opinion. Most of us are truly upset by yesterdays events that were on ALL news stations, local and national.

It saddens me to have the thread removed about the San Bernardino shootings that was to me respectful.

I agree. It is so easy to just stick our heads in the sand.

I was following the thread but there is no way this subject can be discussed without bringing politics into it.

Which is why I never posted.

Since it was decided to put political posts in its own segregated thread, we have no choice but to post these threads in the political section.

That is not burying our head into the sands. It is complying with the TOTV guidelines.

I for one think maybe the guideline may be a little skewed.
Some of us are perfectly capable of having an adult discussion without turning it into a political "bleep" fight.

How about a trial run on a subject that is that concerning to us all. When the rules of common sense and decency are violated by those we know who will attempt to disrupt....remove their posts....give them a time out of a day or twenty!

There is a lot we can learn from each other about these horrific events for prevention, consolling, comfort, education, prevention tips....etc....etc.

I don't think it is fair to automatically 100% clssify a topic as political and throw it into the political forums antagonizers.

Anyway that is my $3.78 (2 cents adjusted for inflation)

MOST people do NOT think that we are immune to anything bad happening here. You have to live here for awhile to see that most of US aren't the same mix that you left behind in your homogeneous city. It is just that it isn't likely AT this point for any number of obvious reasons. We do have poorer areas around us, but not radicalized people. I would worry more AT THIS POINT at being targeted by the crooks who live in Orlando who are on drugs, thinking that we old people who they think have a lot of money are easy marks. We have had burglaries and break ins and thank goodness our law enforcement from all three counties have quickly followed up and found the perps. The sad thing is they don't stay locked up very long.

Yes, we are soft targets, but many of the people who live here have guns and know how to use them and just because we are older we aren't a bunch of people who have no sense. You seemed shocked a couple of times when I made jokes that showed I know what sex is about. We are just older, we are not yet dead. Not all of us are senile.

As a youngster I lived through "the troubles" between England and Ireland where bombings in London were not uncommon and unattended bags / packages were detonated. To say one becomes accustomed to such a disturbing way of life would be insulting, BUT it does become "the new normal" Sadly today in Amerca we find ourselves in a changing world order. What is precious to us in our simple pleasure is despised by many others thinking our way of life altogether abhorrent. I have no soothing platitudes to offer. Peace came in England and Ireland after many years and deaths on each side.
We are all of an age to fully comprehend the inevitable clash of ideological differences, not to mention what the future might hold for our precious grandchildren. My granddaughter is in college pursuing a career in medicine. In our country and culture she is free to do so. I earned my American citizenship and am so very proud of our wonderful nation. I do not want to lose that quintessential "thing" which makes us uniquely American. What troubles laying in wait for us can only be dealt with if we recognize, acknowledge and deal with solutions TOGETHER.

Shrandall. It is people like you, knowledgeable and savvy, yet always compassionate, that make this place such a wonderful place for us.

Your granddaughter is not just lucky.

In the interest of honesty and fairness I should also divulge my husband's military and SWAT team training provides us with a well armed, prepared household willing and ready to defend itself

I agree. And I think it could be done. I subscribe to several political threads that seem too be able to discuss these subjects without getting into a p***ing match. But you have to be able to use real names and the first mention of certain names gets people in an uproar even if that name is major to the discussion.

Nice idea that would never work. You know first hand what it's like over on the political forum. Most of the posts cannot be considered adult discussions. Any poster with an opinion is an antagonizer to one who doesn't agree. Followed by vitriol and chastising. Unfortunately, there are very few exceptions to this pattern.

You are mostly right about this. (Even if you are a bit left) JUST teasing.

But SOME of us still have the ability to change our minds about issues as we continue to live and see and hear. Some people only post to **** off others. They aren't interested or concerned. Being concerned often makes others call them fear mongers. Not being concerned makes people call those people folks with heads in the sand.

I just wish that on today's issues that people would find the world news interesting enough to watch all three major news networks equally. You do get the news and you also can quickly ascertain who is telling it to you with the least bias and that differs a lot with each anchor.

I myself become more to center as I age.

GG, folks can't even discuss restaurants or squares or pink flamingos without spewing hatred. How in the world could they discuss something important?

If only America could admit it has problems and have an honest discussion of the problems without pointing fingers of blame and becoming more concerned about politics and parties than solutions.
