Hi,

Is there a problem having a television set on the lanai.

Not referring to the volume, but to humidity and the like.

Is a flat panel better suited than a conventional set.

We've always had a TV on the lanai. In the seven years we have been here we haven't any problems. We do use an inexpensive set out there due to the weather conditions, but so far so good. Enjoy watching TV, having coffee and reading the paper out there in the morning!

I would think LCD sets would be the best. I've seen numerous outside (covered of course) LCD sets at restaurants, stadiums etc.

We bought a cheapo 24 06 26 inch color TV at a yard sale in June of this year, specifically for the lanai. Works great... BUT... the battery contacts in the remote rusted already and it stopped working until I cleaned them up. We now keep the remote inside.

Do you folks have neighbors behind you? Don't you have to worry about the noise factor bothering someone else? Our neighbors behind us had a television which seemed to be on all hours of the day. We couldn't sit on our lanai without feeling like we were right in their living room watching television, the sound carried so. We finally said something to them, and luckily for us they went and got cordless headphones, so they could listen at a loud volume and not disturb us. Maybe your homes are farther apart than ours.

We're on a cul de sac and we are on the golf course so we don't have any problems with close houses....I don't know how it would be if you were backing up to someone's lanai but I would think that if you kept it at an average volume you would be ok....Also, it is true that the batteries in the remote do tend to go faster when you leave it outside.. We make it a point to bring it in atleast if it looks like rain....

Oh, lucky you, how great to have the privacy behind you! I guess it would be a matter of how far apart the houses are as to whether or not you can hear a television on a lanai behind you. Where we are the houses are very close, so you hear everything. When our neighbors had their television on in their living room it was enough to drive us off the lanai, it was so loud. Sounds like this is an unusual case though compared to most people's situation.

I have a golf course lot and I am very sensitive to disturbing other people,
so the volume will not be a problem for others.

How hard is it to get the connection out to the lanai?
I will have a Gardina.

Back in the day when our house was built (2006), they automatically put a cable connection in the lanai (and kitchen, and living room, and each bedroom...with 2 connections in larger bedrooms).

You'll just have to pay Comcast to activate each connection that you will use.

I will probably go with Embarq and have Direct TV.
Does that make a difference?

Just down Rt 4 in Calvert County.

I stayed with comcast but it is my understanding that direct/dish use the same inside wiring. If that is incorrect, I'm sure a dish/direct subscriber will pipe in.

I travel down to Dunkirk and Prince Frederick on a regular basis.

My state income tax will pay the property taxes in The Villages.

Maryland is a beautiful state with some of the best maintained roads in the nation, but it is also one of the most politically corrupt states in the country.
I won't miss it and I won't miss turning on the TV to hear about the
3 or 4 shootings that happen every night (9 or 10 on the weekends).
