Default "The Walker " Closing

The previous thread was closed, I believe due to the hostile interaction of the posters.

I plan to live a long time in the Villages and I feel the need to clarify a few things that I blame myself for not making clear in my post.
  1. I do not walk in the early morning darkness because I am trying to be sneaky. I have skin cancer and walking 3+ hours each day in the sun is something I can not do.
  2. I make a note of which post light bulbs are out when it is dark out, but I replace them in the daylight.
  3. Replacing light bulbs, which I only do in my community, is only a small part of what I do. Unfortunately, due to the original thread, that is all that was discussed.
  4. Most people in my community know me and therefore there are not concerns addressed by some of the posters. Obviously, one person didn't know me.
  5. When I leave my community, I walk along golf cart paths and main roads and I pick up liter. I do this as a community service.

I hope I have done a better job of telling people who I am.

I am going there.

Do you pick up dog poop you see near the edge of the grass??

I will pick up dog poop from another dog occasionally if I have enough bags to handle Beau's as well.

My neighborhood of Lynnhaven has a few people who are not all that friendly but by-in-large there are mostly very good neighbors here.

I hope you keep up the good work but are a little cautious about the occasional Grumpy Gus and Negative Nancy.

You have the best of intentions and I feel folks should thank you for what you do instead of sarcastically suggesting that you may get shot.

You really don't owe any explanation. Only you know your true intentions so let no one judge you. You sound like a very kind person.

Wish you were around when my lamp post lights needed changing. I was nervous to do it by myself and wasn't sure if I should take the whole cover off or just reach up under it. I managed to do it, but didn't like it, too many bug carcasses up inside there.

Those are some substantial detail that were left out of the initial post. I believe that would have changed the tone of the negative responses. I still believe its being very forward to repair the property of someone else without their approval. No doubt your a very good person. One of the greatest gifts of life is helping another and then keeping it between yourself and your Lord. I'm sure you've experienced the feeling given the style of your work. Stay safe!

I agree with all the good things being said about the OP.

But in the interest of safety and well-being of all Villagers, I must agree with this statement.

Doing random acts of kindness, anonymously, on a singular basis is fine.

But when it becomes daily, self-appointed patrol that chastises a person (the first thread's original poster) for parking their disabled car in the street or for other 'infractions' that are Community Watch duties, it looks like policing and daily "watching" people, an unnerving situation.

As for living out one's faith and then noting newspaper recognition of oneself, Christ's words are very clear:

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The Lord's Prayer
5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
